Which U.S. cities are the most popular for entrepreneurs? A new analysis by LinkedIn’s Economic Graph team shows that while high-growth startups are clustered in a few metro areas, no one city has a monopoly on entrepreneurship. The top cities with the highest concentration of entrepreneurs are spread across eight different states — from Colorado to Florida. San Francisco and New York City are unsurprisingly the most common hubs for those starting a business in the U.S. Los Angeles, which houses 9% of U.S. entrepreneurs, and Boston, which houses 5%, take the third and fourth spot. Austin, Salt Lake City, Seattle, San Diego, Denver and Miami are also on the list. While the most popular industry for entrepreneurs in all 10 cities is software and tech, industry niches can be seen from city to city. In Los Angeles, 13% of entrepreneurs work in entertainment, an industry which has little to no entrepreneurial presence in other top cities. Media (13%) and finance (12%) are big in New York City. And in Boston, it’s healthcare (18%) that stands out. What makes your city a favorable place to start a business?
