CCO, THOSE Creatives / Creative Talent Search By Creatives / ex-Wiedens, ex-AMV, ex-Dentsu / D&AD SHIFT Mentor
I think I’ve passed my three-year probation. In 2021, after a 22-year career as a Creative in advertising, I decided to switch things up. To stop making creative work and to focus on creative talent. Having been a CD at Wieden + Kennedy for four years, followed by nine years as an ECD running the creative department at Dentsu/mcgarrybowen, the pandemic hit and I lost my job. I’d already thought about working in the creative recruitment space for a few years by then, but I’ll never know if I’d have done it without a little push. Well, I got my push. So I decided to try something new and started THOSE Creatives. In my new life, I split my time between straight-up creative recruitment and putting together virtual creative squads for brands and in-house departments. I also CD some of those projects (keeping my hand in). I’ve waited three years before saying anything about this on LinkedIn. I didn’t know if I’d enjoy my new life. I didn’t know if I’d be any good at it. I didn’t know if I’d make enough money. But after three years, I’ve realised it’s working out on all fronts. So now I feel qualified to post about it. As an ex-Creative (who's looked for jobs) and as an ex-ECD (who's hired creatives) and now as someone who works in the recruitment space, I’ve experienced the process from pretty much every angle. So I’ll try to offer a new perspective on what I think is a really important conversation, about how to get the best people possible working on the right things. I won’t post every day. I’ll try and make it useful. And I won’t ever be fishing with a “Hey mid-weight creatives! I have an exciting opportunity at a leading London agency….” Ever.
I love this so much. What a fabulous proposition and idea. I wish you every success. If you're ever in Sydney let me know xx

4moIt's actually very rare in this industry that one comes across a genuinely unique (or even generally different) offer. THOSE Creatives is one of those. I don't know of any other world class creative director who is in charge of finding/recruiting world class creative talent for clients or agencies. Like all genuine innovation it seems blindingly obvious in hindsight, and one can't believe no one has thought of it before. But well done Angus Macadam. A genuinely superb creative whose opinion I'd trust before pretty much anyone elses on creative talent. The first person you should ask about creative talent is surely the kind of person who has spent their entire career spotting, nurturing and empowering it. Why would you ask anyone else? If you want an expert opinion, ask an expert. Nice one.
