⚠ BY THE NUMBERS......... According to the 2023 Alzheimer's Association Facts & Figures report: ✴ Currently 1 in 9 people age 65+ are LIVING with #alzheimersdisease ✴ Currently 33.3% of people age 85+ are LIVING with alzheimer's disease According to a recent Forbes Health article written by Deb Hipp: ✴ Over 800K older adults in the U.S. reside in an #assistedlivingcommunity ✴ 50% of those #assistedliving residents are at least 85 yrs. old ✴ 4 in 10 residents in assisted living are diagnosed with #alzheimers or another form of #dementia ✴ Since the year 2011, 10K #babyboomers a day have been turning 65 ✴ In just 6 short years, their entire generation will be over 65 🤔 ⚠ To say we are at the height of the #silvertsunami is an understatement HOWEVER, I've been noticing a disturbing trend that has me scratching my head & questioning the STRATEGY that (doesn't appear to exsist) within the #seniorhousing industry In the last several weeks, I've read multiple announcements on this platform from connections saying their #memorycare positions at the Senior VP, regional or community levels have been ELIMINATED ⚠ 😮 WTH???? The logic of dismissing folks who are leaders in #dementiacare within an industry currently in the 'eye' of the tsunami storm Is not only frightening but an illogical business move, in my humble opinion In my over 2 decades within #seniorlivingcommunities I've held local, divisional, national & senior VP positions within Dementia care operations Working 60+ hour weeks. Rarely a vacation. And consistently managing operational issues while providing training & support to thousands employees from the #frontlineworkers thru the regional level to the C-suite Every. Single. Person. working within seniorliving care KNOWS that 'Dementia' exsists in Every. Single. Level. of care from Independent living to Assisted & (obviously) within memory care It's an undeniable dynamic - that the industry historically denies. But the NUMBERS don't lie! ❓So my question is.... WHAT's the STRATEGY of these industry owners & management companies❓ How on earth are they not RAMPING UP their efforts to support the massive next wave of older adults who'll be impacted by Dementia at record levels❓ Dementia is a Public Health concern that will eventually impact everyone in some way either directly or in-directly ❓Don't seniorliving providers have a moral obligation to be #leaders in an industry that specifically serves older adults impacted by cognitive decline❓ 😉 #askingforafriend

A total of 1.7 million could be living with dementia in England and Wales by 2040 – which is over 40% more than previously thought. Not only will this have a devastating effect on the lives of those involved but it will also put a considerably larger burden on health and social care than current forecasts predict. The numbers mean one in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia. Quality social care can make a huge difference to people's lives, but we know that people with dementia - who are the biggest users of social care - are struggling with a care system that's costly, difficult to access, and too often not tailored to their needs. Vitality offers great support for your clients in their later life, at the time when they are more likely face those challenges. 1wI totally agree, having seen the horrendous impact on my Mother. Thankfully she had the money to be cared for in a home, but the cost was very high. The lovely care workers get a lowish wage whilst the carehome itself makes vast profits, sometimes to shareholders and its simply not fair on the patient or careworker. They often are born outside the UK and we would be lost without them.
