A new more severe #mpox strain is spreading rapidly in the DRC, with concerns about the speed at which it might reach other countries. This new strain, mpox clade Ib, is believed to spread through non-sexual contact, making it more dangerous and transmissible than previous illnesses. With the #Euros2024 well underway, and the upcoming #ParisOlympics there are concerns of increased spread through the high volume of international travellers and large crowds. Our analysis shows Spanish football fans are most likely to spread mpox (clade IIb) during the euros. Today, Airfinity CEO and founder, Rasmus Bech Hansen, presented at Flagship Pioneering’s London event, Reimagining Immunisation: The future of 21st century vaccines. He joined a panel of other scientific leaders, regulators and policy makers including CEO of CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations), Richard Hatchett, former CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Seth Berkley and Lovisa Afzelius, Origination Partner at Flagship Pioneering. The discussion delved into the challenges of #pandemic readiness, #vaccine innovation and the need for #global surveillance and data-sharing mechanisms for vaccine development.

New analysis by Airfinity shows there has been a 300% rise in approved new #cancer treatments in the last two decades, with the US Cancer Moonshot Goal achievable by 2048. The findings come from the newly released 'Advancements in Oncology: A 20-Year Study of Breakthroughs, Treatments, and Outcomes', a report commissioned by MSD that takes an in-depth look at global cancer disease burden and drug approval trends over the past two decades. A new pandemic is among the biggest risks facing the West, argues our CEO Rasmus Bech Hansen in this article in the Telegraph. “Although the West is today much better prepared than before Covid, there is still much to be done. The Pandemic Agreement, if it can be agreed upon, is part of the solution but it won’t be enough. Western allies need to develop a joint pandemic strategy and anchor it clearly in an international institution", he writes.
