I am so proud of you Adam de Smith , the work you do, literally changes lives.
Using Genomics Data in Practice CLIC researchers Drs. Libby Morimoto, Catherine Metayer, Xiaomei Ma, Adam de Smith, and Joseph Wiemels, studied the polygenic risk score (PRS) for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in Latino children. Their work on studies like the California Childhood Cancer Record Linkage Project (CCRLP) and the California Childhood Leukemia Study (CCLS) is a great example of the power of genetic data in answering the question "Why do kids get cancer?" This study in particular is important for better understanding the differences of cancer risk in European and non-Latino white ancestries to the risk in other ancestries in our diverse world. Results driven CEO leverages 25+ years executive leadership experience to pioneer innovative people analytics. Award-winning entrepreneur and co-author of 3 books on human capital optimization.
Goodbye Two years ago, I was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer (there is no stage five) and have been in therapy since. When we discovered the cancer, it had left the prostate and metastasized to five bones throughout my body (we didn’t catch it early). Hormone therapy was started, and it initially stopped the growth of these cancer “spots.” Then it didn’t. And my spots doubled to ten locations, from my skull to my hips and spots in between. We added chemotherapy to the mix and for the past 10 months it stopped the growth. And then it didn’t. We recently discovered that the cancer has spread to my vital organs, and there is no cure. I have an extremely limited amount of time left on this planet. So, I’m saying goodbye to my friends as I withdraw from social media to focus on my family and a few things I still want to accomplish. I have a tremendous support team. My wife, Pamela, has been at my side at every turn of this battle. She is my rock. My two daughters, Tiffany and Heather, have been exceptional, pitching in wherever and whenever they are needed. And my brothers and sister are giving me unconditional love and support. I’ve accepted my fate. I’ve loved being an entrepreneur. The highs are the highest and the lows the lowest, but always stimulating. Growing up in the household of an entrepreneur I guess it was natural I would become one. I’m proud the early work we accomplished and of the three books on human capital analytics that were published by Wiley. These couldn’t have been accomplished without the great team at Vestrics (acquired by Ultimate Software in 2016). I’ve loved being part of the early evolution of what is now described as the people analytics community. This community has come a long way, but don’t get complacent, there is much more work to be done. There are some folks who have influenced my work in one way or another over the past few decades. They may or may not realize how they have made me a better thinker, and I hope more compassionate. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your collaboration, friendship, and love. In no particular order: Patti Phillips, Jack Phillips, Manny Siverio, Bret Starr, Chris Broderick, Jeff Pease, Stacia Sherman Garr, Reed Clevenger, Bonnie Beresford, Kevin Oakes, Dennis Green, Laurie Ruettimann, Jac Fitzenz, Mark Marcoplos, RJ Milnor, Andrew Collins, Mark Berry, Jeff Casner, Mark Kleinschmidt, Al Adamsen, and Amit Mohindra. Prostate cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in men in the U.S. after lung cancer. If you are so moved, please donate to the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation (JCCF) which raises money to fund leading-edge research at UCLA's Cancer Center. When you donate to the JCCF, your gift provides over 450 physicians and scientists the crucial funding needed to develop new methods, protocols and therapies for treating this disease. Simply put, your gift can save lives. https://lnkd.in/gghwATUT See you on the other side.
