On Independence Day, we at Acadia want to take a moment to thank those who defend the freedom we hold dear. Our protectors bravely and selflessly give so much to our country and communities, despite the toll it may take on their physical and behavioral health. This Fourth of July, we are proud to support all those who serve and recognize the impact their selflessness has on families and communities nationwide. Thank you.

Minorities face unique challenges when it comes to mental health, which often leads to a lack of treatment. According to SAMHSA's 2022 report, while 66% of White adults with a mental health diagnosis received care, only about 50% of Hispanic and Black adults did. During Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to draw attention to this disparity and our collective efforts to address it. Commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of the resilience and perseverance of the Black American community. Importantly as we celebrate Freedom Day, we also reflect on the progress that must continue to create a society that is more equal and more free. Acadia is committed to doing our part to honor the lived experiences of the Black community and – through partnerships like The Jason Foundation, Inc. and NAMI – continues to work toward greater mental and behavioral health equity for all those in need.

In behavioral healthcare, it’s important to think of the unique needs of Veterans, one of our country’s most vulnerable populations. Today, on the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, we want to emphasize how important it is for Veterans to have access to clinically excellent behavioral healthcare services. Our Military & Family Support team supports and advocates for thousands of Veterans by connecting them with specialized, high-quality care. Data shows that eating disorders have one of the highest mortality rates in the behavioral health space. That’s why, at Acadia Healthcare, we are committed to expanding access to specialized eating disorder treatments. These treatments leave a lasting impact – demonstrated by our “Every Bite A Battle” project that was brought to life by alumnae of Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center, one of our leading residential treatment centers. The project shined a light on the power that is found in healing from eating disorders through the telling of personal stories and sharing of captivating artwork that celebrated the victory these incredible women achieved. https://lnkd.in/gqb6Adkz

Research shows that LGBTQ+ individuals are 2.5 times more likely to suffer from anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders compared with heterosexual individuals. As it relates to accessing care, an alarming 8% of LGBTQ+ individuals, and nearly 27% of transgender individuals specifically, report being denied healthcare outright. At Acadia Healthcare, we are dedicated to providing compassionate and inclusive care for everyone. Our commitment to inclusivity means offering safe, supportive environments and programming that is tailored to the unique needs of the LGBTQ+ community. We strive to ensure that all individuals feel valued and respected while receiving the high-quality treatment they deserve.

Laura Groschen, our CIO, has won the prestigious ORBIE Award. Laura has methodically evolved our technology strategy to ensure that our journey to delivering the highest-quality patient experience is as innovative and effective as possible. She has instituted critical programs that further differentiate how Acadia delivers high-quality patient care, including our aggressive electronic medical record system rollout nationwide.
