How you will contribute to our Purpose

As the Director of Youth and Family, your mission-driven leadership will be pivotal in overseeing and guiding our Youth and Family programming and services. You'll prioritize delivering exceptional customer service and enriching experiences for our participants. Collaborating closely with center leadership, you will design programs that address the unique needs of our community while supporting the Regional Youth & Government and Sports Programs.

Your responsibilities will encompass three key areas: promoting the development of healthy lifestyles, actively engaging participants in YMCA programs and activities, and championing values-based and evidence-based initiatives for the betterment of both children and adults within the community. Your dedication to these pillars will drive our organization's mission and positively impact the lives of those we serve.

You will also support the enterprise's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) and the core character values of the YMCA. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will partner closely with other senior leaders throughout the enterprise to achieve outcomes. 

Qualifications

What you bring to Power Your Purpose

  • A bachelor's degree or a blend of education, professional experience, and training.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory position.
  • Experience with creating, implementing, and evaluating Youth and Family Programming and events.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of accounting and finance basics.

Essential Functions

How You Will Make an Impact (Essential Responsibilities):

The member relations aspect of this position requires that relationship building be a top priority at all times, attending to the needs and requests of members, program participants, volunteers, and all people associated with the YMCA in a courteous and friendly manner.

Performance Achievement & Results (40%)

  • Holds team accountable for high levels of achievement to ensure a transformative Y Experience and achieve organizational objectives.
  • Delivers and ensures high-quality year-round outdoor programs and excellent customer service.
  • Models inclusive leadership behaviors and embraces all dimensions of diversity -- building strong teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to our mission.
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, and managing all direct reports and ensuring alignment with association people practices for all positions within their organizational structure.
  • Promotes and implements a goal-based management approach (OKR Methodology) and ensures that all team members are actively working towards supporting center level-objectives and key results.
  • Responsible for modeling and ensuring alignment with association policies and safety protocols, with a special focus on child safety procedures.
  • Monitors and updates all required staff certifications.
  • Promotes and incorporates the YMCA five core values and attributes.

Program Operations & Experience (60%)

  • Guide, direct, and oversee current Youth and Family programs and the creation of new year-round outdoor programs, including establishing operating standards and program objectives to guarantee the quality of existing programs, to ensure participant satisfaction and to attract new members and program participants, including creating an on-going evaluation process.
  • Assist with coordination and recruitment of outdoor day camps.
  • Assist with and lead targeted Teen programs in conjunction with the Youth & Government/ Teen Director to ensure year-long programming for Teens and middle school students.
  • Assist with direct marketing and promotion of programs to ensure achievement of established objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a maintenance program and procedures for facilities and equipment.
  • Maintain proper records for all program responsibilities including organizing and scheduling program registrations and program statistics.
  • Develop programs with appeal to a varied demographic, including but not limited to: gender, ages, socio-economic status, ethnicity, and race.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other community organizations to develop a high degree of YMCA visibility.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives including performing within approved budgets, developing program budgets, meeting or exceeding income production objectives, controlling expenses, achieving or exceeding bottom line results in all areas of financial accountability.
  • Coordinate use of center facilities for program activities and events, including working with maintenance, sports, fitness, aquatics, and membership departments to ensure the smooth flow of programming.
  • Participates in fundraising events and activities at the center, including seeking donations for important YMCA financial development initiatives like the Annual Campaign.
  • Sports liaison for the Association Youth Sports and collaborate closely with Regional Directors.
  • Assists with strategic Impact Group meetings.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
