About The Position


The Water Safety Instructor plans and instructs American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim classes and water safety courses. This position is a part of our Aquatics Department reporting to the Aquatics Manager.


Responsibilities


  • Maintains the safety of learn-to-swim students by following facility policy and state codes.
  • Recognize and responds effectively to emergencies as defined in Emergency Action Plan.
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Teach swim lessons according to American Red Cross LTS guidelines and requirements
  • Prepares class area in advance, neatly maintains aquatics areas during lessons, and puts away equipment, supplies, and skills checklist after the lesson.
  • Adapts teaching approach to match the experience and abilities of the students and develops effective strategies to help them meet the course objectives. Follows all Standard Operating Procedures for lessons.
  • Effectively communicate student and parents’ concerns, comments, and questions to the supervisor or Manager on Duty.
  • Supervises participants while they are practicing course skills and provides timely, positive, and corrective feedback as they learn.
  • Evaluates participants as they perform skills, focusing on critical performance steps as described in the course outlines, and communicates progress to the students and/or parents.
  • Completes and maintains records and reports by taking attendance and recording daily report cards.
  • Communicates and assists in participant registration and promotion of American Red Cross Aquatics programs.
  • Promote group swim lessons and other aquatics programs.
  • As required, work Lifeguard shifts at the discretion of the Aquatics Manager.
  • Attend and participate in regular Service Game training sessions as directed by the supervisor.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance, by wearing the MVP Sports Clubs uniform (see uniform matrix) and name badge.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements


  • High School diploma or 16 years of age.
  • First Aid/CPR Training. In the event a team member is hired without CPR or First certifications, they will be required to attend MVP Sports Clubs in-house training to obtain this.
  • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
  • Excellent teaching skills.
  • Ability to supervise groups of people, including children, both visually and audibly to ensure safety, facility rules and health standards.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and mornings.
  • Physical Requirements: Bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand, sit, and turn/pivot; Lift/lower, push, pull, and carry up to 40 lbs; perform office tasks using simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation and reach associated with assigned tasks such as paperwork, typing, and/or word processing, filing, calculating and use of telephone; See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions.
