What You Will Do:

At Align, the sales team is the engine that drives the reach of our professional services solutions. We’re seeking a qualified Vice President of Business Development ("VP") is who can help keep this engine running with their own sales skills as well as leadership of a team of driven sales representatives. The ideal VP has deep experience with the entire sales process, excelling at lead generation, relationship building, and deal closing. We’re looking for a quick learner who has strong negotiating skills — someone with a successful track record who can inspire the same performance in others. The role demands a leader who has a sharp mind and an ability to coach, advise, motivate, or replace sales representatives while building and maintaining a high-performance team. 


Objectives of the role:

  • Represent the company effectively with comprehensive knowledge of our offerings 
  • Research client needs and identify how our solutions address them 
  • Hire, train, motivate, and advise a team of sales representatives 
  • Achieve company objectives by planning thoroughly, setting sales goals, analyzing performance data, and making forecasts 
  • Develop skills continuously for hiring, training, and leading team members, and ensure that they're using effective sales tactics to meet revenue objectives 
  • Generate leads, and establish and nurture client relationships 


Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leadership – foster a high-performance culture. Conduct regular pipeline reviews and coaching sessions to advance opportunities and mentor the sales team to enhance performance.  
  • Business Development – identifying businesses that are marketable to our network of acquirers. 
  • Sales management operations – lead and manage a team of business development personnel, supporting their efforts to source and close new business.  
  • Sales strategy – alongside the Deal Origination team, identify sectors and geographies of prospective businesses that would be marketable to the investment community  


Requirements:

  • Prior M&A Transaction Experience – prior experience in corporate development, investment banking, or brokerage is required.  
  • Leadership - Demonstrable experience leading a high performing sales team.  
  • Sales & Business Development -- proven ability to prospect for, qualify, and close new business. Individuals must have the ability to network and connect with prospects and referral partners to be successful in generating a pipeline of opportunities.  
  • Sales Planning & Strategy: create and execute a strategic sales plan that expands our customer base and extends the company's global reach 
  • Sales Support: support direct sales team members by meeting with potential clients and growing long-lasting relationships that address their needs 
  • Sales Recruiting: Recruit sales representatives, set objectives, train and coach them, and monitor their performance. Identify knowledge gaps within the team and develop plans for filling them 
  • Sales Management: Ensure that company quotas are met by holding daily check-ins with sales team to set objectives and monitor progress 
  • Exceptional initiative -- a well-organized, well-planned, self-starter 
  • Creativity -- ability to innovate and develop solutions for complex business problems 
  • Networking experience – proven ability to create relationships that generate sales opportunities 
  • Background -- sales, strategic or financial consulting, or business management experience. Finance or investment banking required. 
  • Education -- college degree is required, CPA or MBA preferred 
  • Teamwork -- ability to work well with teammates to solve complex problems 
  • Communication -- ability to communicate in a professional manner, both written and verbally 
  • Ethics -- must be ethical and utilize sound judgement and character in all dealings 
  • Confidentiality - Uphold a strict level of confidentiality 


What You Will Get:

  • This is a full-time, exempt position. Annual salary of $125,000 plus 200%+ bonus based on sales team performance. Total compensation range $250,000 – 500,000+. Bonus is paid as transactions close throughout the year, and the earning potential is uncapped.  Benefits include: health insurance, 401(k) with match, unlimited PTO, 13 company holidays (one being your birthday!), 12-weeks paid parental leave, and work-from-home.
