Teen Director

Position Summary

Responsible for managing and implementing the teen programs of the branch. Promotes equity and inclusion. Incumbent will also plan, schedule, implement, supervise, and evaluate the daily administration, outreach activities in the community, programming services to neighborhood youth, generating positive public relations with the public and in the community.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities)

  • Plans, oversees, and implements the administration of designated Clubhouse teen programs, budgets, schedules, and record keeping. Evaluates all programming to ensure that our members receive highly effective teen programming and conduct annual needs assessments to ensure programming is relevant and reflective of our teens’ interests and needs.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with local and/or feeder educational institutions.
  • Establishes Clubhouse program objectives consistent with organizational goals, mission, and strategic plan.
  • Provides advantage for teens to develop their independent voice through research and advocacy to ensure that policy makers understand their unique and diverse perspectives.
  • Provides opportunities to teens to develop critical soft skills, with an emphasis on public speaking, time management, conflict management and emotional intelligence.
  • Supports existing BGCGW Teen programming including Youth of the Year, Keystone & Torch Clubs, Goals for Graduation, Diplomas 2 Degrees, Teen Takeover and college and career readiness.
  • Partners with Branch Leadership to ensure the fulfillment of all grant required programs focused on teens, the Club experience and advocacy.
  • Collaborates closely with the Lead Teen/Branch Director to ensure that all Teen Programming supports the operation of each active location.
  • Establishes and maintains Clubhouse program goals and settings that secure the health and safety of teen members.
  • Assist with orientation, evaluation and in-service training of program staff and volunteers as well as recruiting new volunteers for programs.
  • Provides day to day supervision of program staff.
  • Increases visibility of Club teen programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through social media, media releases, fliers, and mailings.
  • May oversee special programs and/or events, and/or participate in the implementation of other Club activities, as necessary.
  • May be required to drive Club van periodically.
  • May consult with parents concerning member and branch issues.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: (Education, experience, skills required)

  • Bachelor’s degree or education/experience equivalency.
  • A minimum of five years’ work experience in a Boys and Girls Club or similar organization planning, and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.
  • Ability to deal effectively with teen members including discipline issues.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Requires the ability to speak, hear, use a personal computer for standard business communications, and the ability lift up to 15 lbs.
