Technical Services Manager

On behalf of our client, Felsomat, we are seeking a dynamic and talented Technical Service Manager with a background in machine tools, to lead a team of over 20 members in handling all mechanical and electrical installations, service calls, and aftersales business for Felsomat USA.

The Service Manager will report to the Director of Project Management, providing regular updates on key developments and issues within their areas of responsibility. Timely escalation and appropriate actioning of all mechanical and electrical assembly project statuses to the President and department heads are essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Managing a Team:

• Staff the department to meet the needs of Felsomat customers.
• Prioritizes employee development and retention, setting the team up for success.
• Instills company culture and core values within the team through regular communication and leading by example.
• Actively and consistently identifies gaps in department staffing and addresses these gaps through hiring, training, and contracting as necessary.
• Prepares and delivers annual performance reviews with all direct reports.
• Sets an example for the department through actions and communication including needed follow up and active participation in meetings.
• Holds regular department level meetings to ensure effective communication, knowledge sharing, corrective action and continuous improvement.

Budgeting:

• Clearly identifies and communicates tasks to the team
• Supports Project Managers with proper resource assignment.
• Regularly reviews project performance, seeks improvement opportunities and discusses performance with department employees.

Quality:

• Ensures and maintains high quality expectations related to completion of equipment and services.
• Documents and follows department process/procedure and maintains needed templates/forms/tools.
• Trains and develops department resources using developed process flow and associated tools.

Technical Leader:

• Assists in solving technical problems specific to electrical and mechanical machine installs and service calls at customer locations.
• Analyzes project scope, budget and schedule and assigns the proper resources.
• Supports department managers and project managers with technical knowledge which could be in the form of email, team meetings, customer interactions and/or escalations.

Resource Scheduling:

• Actively aware of project schedules, department assignments and on-time performance
• Pro-actively communicates with Project Managers on concerns, issues specific to project timelines.
• Works with other departmental managers and project managers to resolve scheduling conflicts.

SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITY

• At least 5 years of managerial experience and 10 years of technical experience
• Field Service experience.
• Background in Automation, Machine Tools or Robotics.
• Proficient in budgeting and planning.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, understanding of technical details.
• Experienced in managing large teams, hiring, training and coaching.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work with external and internal stakeholders and cross functional teams.
• Willing to travel approximately 30%.
