Under the supervision of the Stage Operations Manager and reporting to the Technical Director, Stage Supervisors manage backstage operations for the Production Department and work in tandem with all Production shops to ensure proper execution of technical elements. In conjunction with the Technical Directors and Production Office, Stage Supervisors develop methods and practices to uphold the Production Department’s policies and guidelines. Stage Supervisors monitor venue functionality: reporting, planning and executing necessary maintenance. The role requires a broad, adaptable perspective while maintaining attention to detail.

The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $73,000 per year. This is a 52-week role.

Role Responsibilities

  • Execute all aspects of running programing including supervising and leading stage crews in fulfillment of ground plans, shift changes, fly rail operation, and changeovers.
  • Ensure that all crews are aware of and follow Production’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Onboard and train overhire crew as needed.
  • Monitor the functionality and readiness of Juilliard’s performance venues as assigned, reporting any maintenance needs to the Stage Operations Manager.
  • Manage and keep an updated account of the inventories for Production-owned venue equipment including but not limited to: fall arrest equipment, softgoods, risers, and orchestral equipment.
  • Work with Production Office to monitor and stock venue first aid kits.
  • Attend Production and Scenery meetings pertaining to your assigned projects and as determined by the Stage Operations Manager.
  • Work with the with Stage Operations Manager to forecast and draft staffing schedules. Flag overtime proposals for discussion and approval. Identify projects to fill-out weeks without high demand.
  • Attend all technical and dress rehearsals and coordinate with Technical Directors to ensure the production’s needs are met.
  • Coordinate with the Technical Directors regarding load-ins and strikes for projects you are assigned and assist with these tasks as needed.
  • Maintain a professional attitude at all times
  • Other operations and related administrative duties as assigned by the Stage Operations Manager, Technical Directors, and Production Office Staff.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to work well collaboratively as part of and in a team setting.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times in a fast paced, high intensity environment
  • A commitment to equity, diversity, inclusiveness, and belonging.
  • Three years of professional technical theatre experience.
  • Experience with manual rigging systems
  • Proactive in assessing situations and their needs and executing solutions.
  • Must have effective communication skills.
  • Experience in overseeing and running stage crews.
  • Basic Theatrical Carpentry
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, occasionally on short notice.

Preferred Background

  • Experience working in an educational institution.
  • College degree in Scenic Technology or Stage Management
  • Experience in multi-purpose performance spaces
  • AutoCAD drafting experience
  • Experience with producing diagrams for Orchestra seating layouts
  • Experience with Automated rigging systems
  • ETCP certification in Theatrical rigging
  • Experienced knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following: Orchestra, Opera, Theatre, and Dance.
