Campus Location: Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)
Job Purpose: The overall purpose of this job is to promote, document, and publicize Walters State Athletics. This position will serve as a liaison with Athletics staff to assist with athletics publicity, publications, content creation, athletics brand management, marketing engagement, photography, video, and news releases. This position will also assist the college's photography/videography needs.
Essential Job Functions
Write, edit, post, and disseminate to area media pre-season athletic previews, game recaps, feature releases, news releases, and end-of-season recaps. Develop and coordinate an athletics communication plan for releases throughout the year. Working with the Communications and Marketing office, assist in managing the athletics brand, ensuring adherence to institutional brand guidelines and policy. Assist in securing sponsorships for athletics social media and website.
Organize and shoot photographs/videos for social media, the athletics website, and media releases. Assist in meeting the photographic/video needs of the institution in support of the Communications and Marketing office.
Maintain, update, and create content and media for athletics, including graphics, photos, and videos to post to athletic social media accounts; content on the athletics website, including rosters, schedules, and photos; and graphics for the in-house digital score table. Facilitate media relations so the public is informed of relevant athletics news and serve as a liaison between local media and the Athletics department.
Promote student-athletes and the athletics brand through the use of media such as podcasts, social media, written content, and student-athlete spotlights. Assists with planning, coordination, and management of athletic special events.
Maintain data for athletics, including complete historical records, student-athlete information for the website (biographical, secondary/postsecondary statistics, awards, etc.), statistics for each sport
May perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Photography, Videography or a highly related field
Two to four years of career experience
Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
Excellent relationship-building and teamwork skills
Ability to use a photography camera and video camera
Ability to use various pieces of computer software for graphic design and publishing, a camera, and purchasing software
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a news reporter, sports editor, or assistant sports information director
Advanced knowledge of Adobe products, including Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere, as well as Presto web interface.

Leadership & Supervisory: The incumbent has no authority or responsibility for the supervision of others or for project direction/program administration. The position performs most tasks without the consultation of others, though resources, policies, and a supervisor are available when needed. Work is checked largely for progress toward the completion of objectives.
Environment & Working Conditions: The office environment is temperature-controlled with occasional fluctuations, well-lit, and free from loud noises and unnecessary interruptions. This position is frequently outdoors with exposure to conditions such as occasional extreme cold, frequent high heat, temperature changes, noise, vibrations, and humidity. The job requires long periods of standing holding a photograph or video camera, outside conditions where weather could vary and include extreme hot, cold, light rain, etc. Inside and outside work is often noisy at events, so it may cause duress to those with hearing sensitivity. The nature of work requires the employees to be somewhat close to game action, so proximity to sporting equipment and athletes in action may occur.
