Sports Director

WNEP-TV, TEGNA’s ABC affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pa. has an immediate opening for an experienced, creative, and motivated Sports Director.

The Sports Director is the champion of the sports department; leading the team to cover and capture what makes sports so special in northeastern and central Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

  • Anchor nightly sportscasts with an emphasis on creating memorable moments on all platforms, from TV to digital.
  • This position requires strong writing, news gathering and editing skills.
  • The goal is to deliver on-air sports events, under deadline, in an engaging, compelling, and accurate manner.
  • Develop sources for their special area of interest and use the latest editing and photography tools available.
  • Write and post daily on all digital platforms
  • Participate in community partnerships and events as well as promotional appearances as requested

Requirements

  • Operating a news vehicle is necessary to and from various locations.
  • BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field
  • 3-5 years of daily sports gathering experience
  • Anchor experience is required
  • Proven ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
  • Demonstrated social media proficiency, especially in the field, including an active news presence on Twitter and Facebook
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
