Special Assistant to the Head Coach, Women's Basketball

Position HighlightsThe Special Assistant to the Head Coach will assist the Head Coach of the Women's Basketball program with daily operations, including but not limited to Name, Image and Likeness, Player Development, Scheduling, Community Events and Administrative Tasks to directly support the Head Coach and overall program goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

Name, Image and Likeness:

  • Work with internal and external units in all areas of NIL
  • Facilitate educational opportunities related to NIL with student athletes, coaches, and staff.
  • Create a plan and implement it with all stakeholders involved in NIL
  • Knowledge of NCAA Name, Image, Likeness policies

Alumni Relations Program

  • Create and manage an alumni network/database of former players of the program.
  • Establish an annual calendar/rhythm of actively engaging former players including but not limited to written/email correspondence, special events, attendance at home basketball games, fundraising efforts, homecoming event, etc.
  • Work with Wildcat Club and A-Club Letterwinners for key donor events and alumni connections.

Program Management

  • Work with the coaching staff to direct the day-to-day operations of the sport program. Work with Head Coach and AD to develop short-and-long-range planning. Make recommendations to improve/change current policies/procedures. Responsible for developing a manual for, academics and student-athletes, consistent with university and departmental policy.
  • Coordinate team and head coach schedules to maximize efficiency and get the greatest amount of exposure to community and university events.
  • Assist Head Coach as a liaison with academics, strength and conditioning, and constant monitoring of student athletes progress on the court and with overall wellness goals.
  • Lead/direct a fully comprehensive player development program including but not limited to leadership, financial literacy, media training, player mentor program, post college transition planning/preparation, nutrition, strength and conditioning, etc.
  • Serve as the women's basketball liaison for the student-athletes development program.
  • Monitor community service hours and opportunities and share progress with coaching staff.
  • Develop and lead professional opportunities program for players. Serve as a mentor to both educate and assist with the process of becoming a professional.
  • Responsible for scheduling contests to develop team competition schedules that meets revenue obligations, maintains competitive balance and regional rivalries, fits within team travel budgetary resources, is viewed by fans as attractive, remains within NCAA parameters, and positions team strategically for post-season competition (i.e. seeding).
  • Meet all scheduling requirements, if any, as stipulated by conference membership.

Adherence To Compliance

  • Maintain complete and thorough knowledge of all NCAA rules, both adopted and submitted for consideration at NCAA.
  • Educate coaches on all rules, serving as liaison to Director of Compliance.
  • Attend monthly compliance meetings held by the compliance office.
  • Follow NCAA Rules and institutional policies related to team travel, complimentary tickets, recruiting and other compliance related topics in the day-to-day operations of the women's basketball program.
  • Maintain effective records and correspondence related to all compliance related matters including but not limited to phone logs, CARA reports and additional compliance reports required by the program.
  • Complete all required paperwork as required by the NCAA Compliance Office.
  • Prepare reports, records, and other related documents; prepare request for national letter of intent and applications, monitor grant-in-aid list and numbers, with a sensitivity to counters.

  • Skill in use of personal computer/software (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Paciolan, Lynx)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three years of Division I experience.
  • Experience with NCAA rules and regulations as well as Conference regulations and policies.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends and travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience working with diverse population
  • Strong experience with managing students and managing a fast-paced and dynamic office environment
