Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a Social Worker to join our team!

We offer sign-on bonus up to $5,000 (candidate must be new to DBHDS or not a part of DBHDS in past year)

Counselor I/Social Worker Will

  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to understand the client's concerns, challenges, and goals. Knowledge of interviews, standardized assessments, and other diagnostic tools to gather information about clients' mental health, emotional well-being, relationships, or specific issues they are facing.
  • Developing and implementing treatment and discharge plans in collaboration with clients, family members, and the treatment team.
  • Provide PSR interventions;
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with Community Service Providers.
  • Document interventions; and be the link between the WSH treatment team, clients’ families, and a person that supports recovery.
  • Provide immediate support and intervention during crises or emergencies. Help clients manage overwhelming situations, such as trauma, abuse, suicidal ideation, or severe emotional distress, by providing emotional support, safety planning, and appropriate referrals if necessary

Minimum Qualifications

  • BSW required (graduation from a CSWE-accredited undergraduate or graduate social work program).
  • Knowledge of acute and persistent mental illnesses/forensic issues, person-centered treatment, discharge planning, and community resources available to those with mental illnesses.
  • Professional work experience with adults with serious mental illness.
  • Knowledge of hospital and community mental health systems.
  • Ability to form therapeutic relationships with clients and their supports and to form effective partnerships with community service providers.
  • Demonstrated skills in interviewing, assessment, problem-solving, professional collaboration, and the ability to coordinate community and agency resources.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience in discharge planning .
  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Records/interfaces from other software programs .
