Senior Wildlife Biologist

Plateau Land & Wildlife Management, Inc. is part of a growing family of companies located in Dripping Springs, Texas who provides a broad spectrum of services to clients who want to protect, preserve, and enhance their hand. The Senior Wildlife Biologist will be responsible for all regional operations with support from the corporate office and provides wildlife management plans, assessments, and consulting to private landowner clients while managing regional staff biologists. Senior Wildlife Biologists are expected to have business acumen and assist in the future growth of Plateau Land & Wildlife in accordance with the strategic plan for their region of responsibility. The Senior Wildlife Biologist makes sound and timely decisions, is resourceful, follows through on commitments, communicates effectively, instills trust, is adaptable to different situations and builds strong customer relationships across all companies.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


·     Wildlife Management Plans and Open-Space Applications – conducting site visits and consultations with landowners to prepare and update wildlife management plans and applications to qualify properties for open-space wildlife management valuation.

·     Wildlife Management Consulting – working independently with landowners to provide property specific advice and recommendations for wildlife management practices and techniques and specific products and services offered by Plateau Land & Wildlife. Preparing specialized reports to address specific landowner needs. 

·     Property Tax Consulting – Providing professional advice and representing landowners to resolve open space valuation issues with central appraisal districts, including representation at Appraisal Review Board hearings.

·     Wildlife Surveys – providing recommendations, oversight, and support for applicable wildlife surveys.

·     Wildlife Management Services – delivering and installing and servicing Plateau Land & Wildlife products and providing Plateau Land & Wildlife services in coordination with the Products & Service Manager.

·     Sales and Marketing Support – Coordinating with regional account managers to identify sales opportunities, conducting public outreach through seminar and webinars as well as other speaking opportunities and participating in other activities to increase sales in the assigned service region.


Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:


·     Bachelor’s or master’s degrees in wildlife management, rangeland ecology, restoration ecology or related field, with experience in applied wildlife management. Substantial experience in wildlife management planning may substitute for the graduate degree requirement.

·     Must meet the requirements for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to become a Registered Property Tax Consultant within one year of hiring.

·     Proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs as well as Adobe Acrobat.

·     Exceptional written and verbal communication as well as excellent interpersonal skills.

·     Ability to access habitat for general wildlife proposes and specific to local wildlife species habitat requirements.

·     Ability to identify the majorit1y of plants (trees, shrubs, vines, forbs and grasses) in a region.

·     Ability and willingness to work in adverse weather conditions.

·     Ability to navigate within the property using maps and GPS.

·     Ability to work, plan and organize independently without direct supervision.

·     Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

·     Professional client/customer service skills.


Preferred Qualifications:


·     Experience working with private landowners and preparation of wildlife management plans for open-space appraisal.

·     Ability to conduct avian surveys using accepted protocols. 

·     Existing familiarity with Texas Law concerning Wildlife Use Appraisal and TPWD guidelines for 1-D-1W activities and practices and ability to discuss and answer questions, concerning them with current and potential clients, realtors, and county tax appraisers. 

·     Experience with hand-held GPS units and tablets, for field use.

·     Experience with power tools, chainsaws and other two cycle power equipment.

·     Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit.
