Guzman Energy is seeking a Senior Real-Time Power Trader (WECC, CAISO, PJMISO) to be responsible for managing loads and resources and identifying and executing trading opportunities in the real-time markets. This position requires the flexibility and willingness to cover all real-time markets within provided jurisdictions. This position will support physical assets, loads, and other transaction types. Ideal candidate must possess the ability to function well in an open-floor environment and collaborate well with team members. We offer a comprehensive pay package that includes : competitive compensation ranging from $90,000 - $130,000 per year (depending on various skills, experience, and other factors),

annual performance-based incentive bonuses, unlimited PTO, medical benefits, and a 401(K) program with employer match.


Responsibilities


  • Take or direct timely and appropriate real-time actions in accordance with NERC, RTO/ISO procedures.
  • Executes intraday strategies to optimize or mitigate resource or load deviations and capture relative value.
  • Responsible for NERC tagging functions and procuring transmission.
  • Analyze and interpret power and fuel market fundamentals including thermal and renewable generation, load, transmission, congestion, natural gas supply, transport, and regulatory developments.
  • Enhance portfolio value through bidding, trading, and use of hedging strategies to maximize profits in accordance with company risk management guidelines.
  • Analyze and evaluate energy transactions to ensure that all relevant aspects including energy price, transmission, counter party, and contractual terms are compliant with Guzman Energy Risk Management Policy.
  • Monitor and analyze available market information to identify marketing and trading opportunities.
  • Communicate with Balancing Authorities, Reliability Coordinators, Transmission Operators, and ISO/RTOs on continual basis, taking necessary actions and providing ancillary services to ensure system reliability.
  • Maintain compliance with all related corporate and industry trading policies, codes of conduct and other relevant reporting requirements.


Qualifications & Requirements


  • 5-10 years of experience as a real time trader
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or related quantitative discipline.
  • MBA or graduate degree(s) welcomed.
  • Ability to work 12-hour (night or day) shift schedules as part of a 24-hour operation
  • Analytical/technical skills to develop individual analysis and perform independent research.
  • Experience with economic dispatch, generation commitment and load management preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; sound conceptual thinking. Must have ability to make decisions quickly; identify and communicate market opportunities to co-workers.
  • Must have strong work ethic and self-discipline.
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Must be team player with good communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Goal Oriented with defined target outcomes.
  • Applicable experience with any of the following markets: CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, PJM, NYISO, and/or ISONE markets and/or operations
  • NERC and PJM certification are a plus


This position will be in Denver, Colorado. Actual position title and compensation will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
