ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Database Architect/Administrator will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems to support the scalability and performance of their location data products. You will bring your expertise in PostgreSQL to own the backbone of the platform. This role involves working cross-functionally with data scientists, software engineers, product teams, and operations, and reporting directly to the Director of Engineering. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to apply strategic thinking and innovative solutions to drive success.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Architecture and Management:

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable database systems to support large-scale location data.
• Optimize database performance, ensuring high availability and reliability.
• Develop and enforce database standards, best practices, and security measures.
• Ensure efficient and scalable cloud infrastructure to support database operations.
• Automate operational processes and implement monitoring solutions to maintain system health.
• Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required.
• Implement and maintain policies and practices for disaster recovery and backup solutions.
• Serve as an expert resource in querying and accessing databases for the organization.

Collaboration and Innovation:

• Work closely with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to understand data requirements and provide database solutions.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in database technologies, DevOps practices, Artificial Intelligence, and Cloud technologies.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of their database architecture and operational workflows.

Strategic Involvement:

• Participate in strategic planning sessions and contribute to high-level decision-making processes.
• Work closely with leadership to align database architecture and optimization with company goals and objectives. Influence the product roadmap as the company scales.

ABOUT YOU

• Adaptive and flexible thinker, self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit.
• Strong communication skills, with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Expertise in SQL, specifically PostgreSQL management and SQL programming.
• Experience with data storage solutions.
• Experience managing large-scale database systems in a high-traffic, distributed environment.
• Proven experience in database architecture and management, preferably in the location data or geospatial industry.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in backend services integration and large scale microservices.
• Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and the AWS Ecosystem.

Bonus Points:

• Experience with Vector databases.
• Experience feeding data into personalization algorithms.
• Experience with PostGIS and geospatial mapping.
• Skilled in JSON programming.
• Experience with AI/ML algorithm development.
