About us
Mayo Clinic has expanded and changed in many ways, but our values remain true to the vision of our founders. Our primary value – The needs of the patient come first – guides our plans and decisions as we create the future of health care. Join us and you'll find a culture of teamwork, professionalism and mutual respect, and most importantly, a life-changing career. Mayo Clinic was founded in Rochester, Minnesota by brothers Dr. William James Mayo and Dr. Charles Horace Mayo. More than 100 years later, their vision continues to evolve around a single guiding value: "The needs of the patient come first." Today we are the largest integrated, not for-profit medical group practice in the world. We are recognized for high-quality patient care more than any other academic medical center in the nation. These endorsements are very gratifying, but also humbling. They remind us of the tradition that has been entrusted to each one of us, and the legacy of excellence that we uphold every day.

Elizabeth Cathcart-Rake, M.D., a Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer, has launched the Rainbows Breast Cancer Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, to support the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, gender diverse and intersex (LGBTQ+) people with or at risk for breast cancer. Congratulations to our nursing colleagues on Nasseff Tower 4, who received the DAISY Team Award this past May. They were nominated by a patient’s family member. Here is an excerpt from the nomination story: "My Dad had a very complicated medical course during his stay. In those days, there were so many highs and lows, multiple tests, and many new faces coming to see and manage his care. My Dad was a mechanic by trade and was reminiscing through many decades of his lifetime with his many cars, projects the various car motors and endless tales of his 78 years of life. Each and every one of this care team was so kind to listen to him without judgment and just let him tell his tales from his younger years. I spent long hours at his bedside observing kindness, compassion and dignity. Not one time did I witness anything but exemplary care from EVERY single person who entered his room. From the housekeeping staff to the PCAs who were assigned to be “one-on-one” care for him, to his nurses and Physician assistants, to his top-rated cardiothoracic surgeon, I was very impressed with his team. The staff not only took care of my Dad, but they also took care of me. At my request, they protected my Dad from the “scary stuff”. They were honest, upfront and straightforward with my father’s prognosis. They even had a beautiful sweet social worker (whose name was Angel) call me on my commute home one evening to check on me. In my opinion, this was above and beyond. This was human kindness and it was overflowing toward a daughter who tried her very best to protect a man that she loved and adored since her birth. My Dad’s life ultimately ended. Late that evening, I kissed my Dad’s cheek and held his big strong hands in his final moments. There are really no words to thank the hands that touched my Dad. They made a difference during the hardest days of my life. Nasseff Tower is a well-oiled machine that deserves to be recognized for the soft place it provided." Mayo Clinic is among over 5,000 healthcare organizations worldwide committed to the DAISY Award program. The DAISY Award is presented each month to an extraordinary nurse.
