Senior Counsel - Privacy, Privacy Contracts and Regulatory Compliance

We are looking for a Director-level Senior Counsel to focus on Privacy, Privacy Contracts, and Regulatory Compliance. You'll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world's best quantum computers to solve the world's most complex problems.

They will provide legal advice and guidance to IonQ concerning privacy and regulatory compliance matters as well as negotiate privacy-related contracts and will advise on and/or negotiate privacy provisions of sales, partnership, and vendor contracts. This attorney will also analyze and contribute to regulatory policy positions and internal policy/industry guidance related to quantum computing (for example export controls and responsible use of quantum computing). This attorney will also direct the efforts of specialist outside counsel for government contracts negotiated under the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).

Responsibilities:

  • Guide IonQ on all matters related to Data Privacy and oversee Privacy Compliance
  • Negotiate Privacy-related Contracts
  • Provide support, substantive collaboration, and knowledge in regard to Regulatory Affairs and current and pending Regulations relevant to IonQ's work
  • Research and advise on the Privacy and Regulatory effects of Acquisitions, Outside Communications, and other activities
  • Collaborate closely with Outside Counsel specializing in Government Contracts, Export Controls and other Regulatory matters
  • Some travel will be required

You'd be a good fit if you have:

  • Knowledge of and significant experience advising on current and pending laws and regulations pertaining to Privacy and Cutting-Edge Technologies
  • Excellent Problem-solving and Communication skills
  • Excellent Negotiation skills
  • The ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of management, including senior leadership, to drive business results
  • Experience advising on/administering Data Privacy Compliance
  • Experience negotiating Privacy and/or Vendor Contracts
  • The ability to think strategically and advise on current and pending regulatory issues
  • A demonstrated ability to manage outside Counsel and to work efficiently and effectively independently and/or with limited resources
  • 6-10 years experience in relevant work gained from Law Firm and In-House positions
  • The ability to concurrently manage multiple timely projects/issues
  • A J.D. from an accredited law school and admitted to the bar of (and in good standing in) at least one state/district (preferably Washington, Maryland, DC, California, Delaware, or another major state).

You'd be a great fit with one or more of the following:

  • Significant experience lawyering for cutting-edge Computer Hardware and Software
  • Significant experience advising in-house Product and/or Security functions
  • Experience advising on current and pending regulations relating to Artificial Intelligence and/or Machine Learning
  • Experience influencing Government Policy
  • Experience with Export Control requirements
  • Experience with the Federal Acquisition Regulations
  • Experience advising on/administering Security compliance
  • Undergraduate or additional degrees in a technology-related field

Location:

Our CEO works out of our Seattle (Bothell) office and our Chief Legal Officer is in the SF Bay Area. Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a five-minute walk from the Metro. Our Legal team members are located in the Washington DC, Seattle and SF Bay areas. As such, we would prefer that you be located in one of these geographies. However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally, so don't let this stop you from applying. Some travel will be required.

The salary range for this position is $154,883 - $201,972. Beyond base pay, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component, as well as a range of benefit options.

The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. The total compensation package may include other elements dependent on the position and level. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. Beyond base pay, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component, as well as a range of benefit options which can be found on our site at ionq.co/jobs. Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland which is only a 15-minute metro ride from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. Depending on the position, you may be required to be located near our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto. However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally so don't let this stop you from applying!
