Purpose Statement

The job of Child Care Assistant (JC618) is done for the purpose/s of under general supervision, providing recreational and educational activities for children at a child care center; and assisting in maintaining a clean and safe learning environment for children.

This job reports to the Supervisor - Child Care

Essential Functions

  • Assists the child care supervisor with age appropriate activities by working with individual or small groups of students (e.g. games, art, music, language, nutrition, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and reinforcing learning concepts and by caring for the needs of the students.
  • Cleans program equipment and work areas (e.g. kitchen tools, appliances, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items while providing for a safe learning environment.
  • Communicates with appropriate stakeholders (e.g. Child Care Supervisor, parents, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accurate information is shared and conveyed while complying with District, state, and federal privacy of information requirements.
  • Delivers children directly to parents or authorized individuals for the purpose of ensuring safety of children and meeting the District requirements.
  • Distributes a variety of materials to children (e.g. instructional, play, etc.) for the purpose of providing children with necessary items and assisting the child care supervisor in the classroom.
  • Maintains documents, files, and records (e.g. medical records, student nutrition requirements, sleep schedule, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the confidentiality and availability of materials for internal use and distribution as required and appropriate.
  • Monitors children in various activities (e.g. test period, snack time, play activities indoors and outdoors, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Promotes good habits (e.g. hand washing, etc.) for the purpose of improving the quality of students' outcome and encouraging child development.
  • Provides a positive role model for the purpose of modeling in child care for at risk parents.
  • Receives children directly from parents or authorized individuals for the purpose of ensuring safety of children and meeting the District requirements.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
