The Department of Biochemistry is seeking a Research Assistant and Lab Manager. The successful candidate will manage basic laboratory operations, conduct research, and support researchers in the lab of Dr. Andrew Mesecar.
As a lab manager, you will be responsible for the overall organization of the laboratory which includes:
Organizing and maintaining the laboratory inventory of chemicals, reagents, cell stocks, DNA, and proteins
Ordering lab supplies and equipment
Scheduling equipment and instrument service calls
Maintaining records, maintaining safety training records and biohazards protocols
Supervising lab aides
As a researcher, under the guidance of the PI, you will:
Design protein expression systems
Perform molecular biology techniques, express, and purify proteins develop
Perform enzymatic assays, conduct, and analyze protein ligand-binding studies, and crystallize proteins
Generate and maintain stock cell lines, plasmids, and proteins
What we are looking for:
Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Chemistry, or related field
1 or more years of laboratory research experience
Excellent record keeping skills
Good communications skills with ability to follow oral and written instructions
Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multitask, work under pressure, handle interruptions and meet deadlines
Proficient in software including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel, PowerPoint), data analysis software such as GraphPad Prizm, SigmaPlot etc.
Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information, and implement solutions
Ability to carefully document and analyze research finding
Work safely and accurately in a laboratory setting as well as independently and in a team environment
