Job Description

You will be focused on helping readers better understand Southern California, which has 23 million residents and outsized political and cultural influence across the world.

Responsibilities


  • You will deliver newsy stories that help readers better understand the region.
  • You will develop sources locally to land exclusive stories and to establish beat authority.
  • You will demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
  • You will report to the California Editor on the National Desk.


Basic Qualifications


  • 5+ years’ experience at a journalism or media company or other relevant organization
  • Writing skills that demonstrate mastery of journalistic style and standards, including ethical and superb news judgments
  • A portfolio that includes news, enterprise and analysis
  • Spanish language fluency


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience promoting a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Deep interest in Southern California

The annual base pay salary for this role is between $111,049.64 and $140,000.00.
