Under the direct supervision of a Radiologic Technologist, the Radiology Student performs a variety of imaging procedures.

To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.



  • Interacts professionally with patients/families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence through application of positive language principles, appropriate response and use of constructive problem-solving techniques which foster positive outcomes.
  • Maintains accurate and continued documentation. Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Follows the six (6) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
  • Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.



  • Applies principles of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
  • Keeps current with principles and practices, regulations, and standards that apply to healthcare.
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment prior to scanning. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly. Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. Analyzes results and quality of imaging results. Reports any issue of the quality of the imaging accordingly. Completes images and routes them to the Radiologist for interpretation.
  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications, within scope of practice.
  • Programs portable or stationary x-ray machines and makes radiographs for a variety of examinations.
  • Operates the Konic CR Reader to view images and transmit images to PACS.
  • Performs other reasonably related job duties as assigned or requested, within scope of practice.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent, is required.

Currently enrolled in Radiologic Technology program

Required Licenses: N/A

Required Certifications:



  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

Required Skills:

Requirements will include successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific area of work.

  • Must possess knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of word processing, email, electronic medical records, information systems and other similar software as required.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written, verbal and communication skills.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. Additional languages preferred.
