Three of our Community Hospital CEOs were recently included in Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2024 listing of “Community Hospital CEOs to Know.” Earning the recognition were Bill Little, MBA, CEO of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (Hartsville, NC); D. Melody Trimble, CEO of St. Francis-Emory Healthcare (Columbus, GA); and John Whiteside, MHA, MBA, CEO of SageWest Health Care (Lander/Riverton, WY). Per Becker's, CEOs listed lead their hospitals’ provision of acute services first and foremost but also grow primary and specialized service lines, cultivate positive workforce cultures, direct overarching strategy, and maintain financial stability. Congratulations to these CEOs and the fine work of their hospital teams!

Today, we proudly celebrate Juneteenth, which honors the end of slavery and the gaining of independence by all Black Americans. We encourage everyone to acknowledge and reflect on the incredible history of resilience, courage, achievement and patriotism of Black Americans, in the face of systemic barriers.

Our National Hiring Event is over but we’re still hiring! Our May 22 national hiring event saw great success as we hosted over 2,700 attendees nationwide and were able to quickly hire over 750 people across a number of specialties including nursing, radiology, respiratory therapy, etc. to support our varied levels of care in our 96 facilities across the nation. For the second consecutive year, both Southwestern Medical Center LLC (Lawton, OK) and Watertown Regional Medical Center (Watertown, WI) were included in Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2024 listing of 100 Great Community Hospitals. These ScionHealth community hospitals provide high-quality compassionate care to their communities, and in the process, continue to earn accolades as top hospitals from organizations such as Becker's Healthcare, Chartis, Healthgrades, Leapfrog and more. Every June, we proudly join organizations and communities nationwide in celebrating Pride Month. This month and throughout the year, we proudly stand with individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ and are committed to creating a supportive, inclusive, and equitable workplace for all. Happy Pride!

Congrats to the four leaders from ScionHealth who were recently recognized by Becker's Healthcare on its 2024 list of Black Healthcare Leaders to Know. The ScionHealth honorees are Abiola Anyebe, Market CEO for Kindred Hospitals of North Texas; Tarra Washington PT, DPT, MBA, Market CEO for Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals of Oklahoma; Vanessa Peters-Kinzy, Vice President of Clinical Operations for Community Hospitals; and James Poullard, Senior Vice President for Support Services, Health Equity and Experience. Thank you to all four of them for their leadership and for all they do for our patients and hospital teams.

Four ScionHealth community hospitals ‒ Andalusia Health (Andalusia, AL), Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (Hartsville, SC), Palestine Regional Medical Center (Palestine, TX) and Southwestern Medical Center LLC (Lawton, OK) ‒ earned the prestigious “A” grade for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group during its Spring 2024 review. Of the 14 ScionHealth community hospitals reviewed, 43% have improved their Leapfrog safety grade since its Spring 2023 review. Read more about it below.

During May, we celebrate National Asian American, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month as a time to honor and recognize the countless achievements and contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders during our nation's history. We encourage everyone this month to find meaningful ways to celebrate, honor and learn more about AANHPI history and culture.

May 12 through May 18 is National Hospital Week, a time to recognize our 93 hospital campuses and facilities and thank our nearly 25,000 team members who care for our patients and support our operations. During Hospital Week and every week, we appreciate the commitment of our staff to improve the health and well-being of those who entrust us with their care. Happy Hospital Week!
