Property Claims Unit Supervisor Objective

To assist the Director of Property & Liability Claims and the Field Property Claims Manager in managing all functions of a Property Claims Unit that are necessary to provide prompt and efficient handling, control, and disposition of all claims in an assigned area. To establish and maintain quality control of claim processing functions by staff, select vendors and managed repair programs for property and casualty losses. To aid in the assessment and adoption of best practices and industry benchmarks to continually improve customer service. To act as a liaison with other divisions.

Property Claims Unit Supervisor Responsibilities

Assist in coordinating and managing the handling of property claims so as to have a significant positive effect on the overall profit picture of the company and provide quality service to the insured. Aid in the risk selection and retention of business by maintaining an effective service operation.

Assist in the determination and interpretation of policy coverages of property claim files to ensure the proper handling according to company policies and procedures. Read, comprehend, evaluate, adjust and supervise property claims for payment, following the company procedures, to include verification of policies and coverage, authorization of bills, estimates, depreciation and settlement of claims within approved limits.

Participate in the property claim file audit program to ensure quality claims handling, as well as compliance to company guidelines, procedures and state insurance regulations, reporting the results to the Vice President of Claims.

Property Claims Unit Supervisor Qualifications

Required Minimum five to seven years’ experience in claims required, with a strong customer service background preferred.

Ability to accept responsibility, train personnel and maintain an interest in their development required.

Must have an understanding and appreciation for cooperative business methods.

Proven knowledge of claim procedures, insurance policy coverages and legal defense required.

Must possess excellent listening and superior customer service skills with strong leadership abilities.

Must possess a valid driver license with an acceptable driving record.

Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, succinctly and in a manner that appeals to a wide audience.

AIC designation and/or professional insurance coursework required.

Preferred Bachelor's degree required with a major in insurance, business, or communications preferred, or equivalent experience may be considered.

Working knowledge of property contracts, construction practices, estimating practices, investigation techniques and arson/fraud investigation preferred.

Teaching skill for claims technical training preferred. CPCU designation preferred

Note This hybrid position working both remotely and in the Farm Bureau Home Office (located in Lansing, Michigan) minimally one day per week. This supervisory position supervises the Property Virtual Desk Adjusting Team based in and around the greater Lansing area.
