Process Engineer

Description:

Responsible for providing the overall process design and suggest measures for improvement of manufacturing, thereby increasing productivity and improving manufacturing costs. Ensures Safety, Quality, Production, Delivery, People & Lean standards are maintained.

The primary responsibility of this position is to:

• Maintain the takt pace of production
• Improve standardized work (Best Practices)
• Conduct necessary training in standard work
  
  

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure department process standard work instructions are followed.
• Make available to maintenance, requested equipment for preventative maintenance (PM).
• Ensure “team members” use all the proper PPE/safety equipment as well as following all safety standards and procedures.
• Train and coach operators as needed.
• Listen and support operators and Team Leads to optimize their commitment and involvement in improvement.
• Use process knowledge to create work instructions and best practice implementation and sustainability.
• Maintain, audit and improve departmental 5-S standards.
• Maintain, audit and improve operator standard work.
• Meet departmental goals and objectives (KPIs) that contribute to overall company goals.
• Attend daily Team Center meeting with Operations Manager (5 to 15 min.)
• Communicate effectively with individuals up, down and across the organization.
• Check call ins/adjust labor plan as necessary
• Attend regularly scheduled Gemba walks with supervisor and/or continuous improvement (kaizen) team.
• Work with Team Leader to develop next day’s labor plan and prep for next days meeting.
• Verify, monitor and respond to information (flow interrupters) on the departmental takt board(s) for corrective action to get back on schedule.
• Collaboration with maintenance department in creation of OEE, equipment failure rate and downtime reduction.
  
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) preferred but not required
• Minimum of 3 years of production supervision experience preferred
• Experience in a manufacturing environment utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TQM and/or ISO is preferred.
• Team player with ability to build lasting productive business relationships with hourly associates, management, and peers.
• Ability to effectively communicate information both verbally and in writing
• Thorough understanding of department process.
• Working knowledge of basic safety policies and procedures.
• Blueprint reading.
• Tooling and design experience a plus
