In an industry-first for #NuclearEnergy, we have used additive manufacturing (AM) to fabricate bottom nozzles that improve debris capture and fuel endurance within our fuel assemblies. The nozzles were used in four Lead Test Assemblies delivered to Alabama Power’s Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, which is operated by Southern Nuclear. • Bringing two new advanced Westinghouse AP1000® reactors online in Georgia in the last 12 months capped years of hard work by thousands of world-class professionals. Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4 are the first new reactors in the United States in 30 years. Hear from some of our employees as they reflect on the incredible effort in collaboration with Georgia Power, Southern Nuclear, Bechtel and many other partners and suppliers.

  • A big challenge for #NuclearEnergy power plants is identifying and replacing obsolete parts. We're here to help! Gathering experience from our work at more than 200 nuclear facilities across the world, the Westinghouse Proactive Obsolescence Management System (POMS) aggregates information from all types of nuclear power plants (PWR, BWR, CANDU, AGR, VVER). • We’re open for business and hiring now at our new global engineering hub in Kitchener, Ontario! The opening of the new 13,000-square-foot facility comes at an exciting time for the Canadian nuclear energy industry. There is growing interest in building new reactors big and small like Westinghouse’s advanced AP1000® reactor, the AP300™ small modular reactor and the eVinci ™ microreactor: to power cities and towns in southern regions, and to replace fossil fuels for remote communities and industries in the north of the country. Read about why we chose the Kitchener-Waterloo region, an area of Canada known as “Silicon Valley of the North” for its vibrant tech sector, and the jobs we are filling at the engineering site in the year ahead: https://lnkd.in/gFqAUC5G

How has our global new-build supply chain evolved, and where are we developing new supplier-partners as we gear up for the next wave of Westinghouse advanced AP1000® reactor deployments? The American Nuclear Society spotlighted Westinghouse in its June issue of Nuclear News, which focuses on the #NuclearEnergy supply chain, now that the two new AP1000 reactors are operating at Plant Vogtle in the U.S. delivering carbon free energy to an estimated 1 million homes. • We signed an agreement today with Saskatchewan Power Corporation and Cameco Corporation to evaluate the potential for our nuclear reactor technology and nuclear fuel supply chain to help meet Saskatchewan’s future clean power needs. This new memorandum of understanding (MOU) will explore pathways to deploy Westinghouse’s reactor technology, including the advanced AP1000® reactor and AP300™ small modular reactor, for long-term electricity supply planning. We are excited about our continuing expansion in Canada. Last week, we opened a new global engineering hub in Kitchener, Ontario, dedicated to supporting the CANDU® operating fleet and deployment of Westinghouse new-build technologies – including the AP1000 reactor, AP300 #SMR and eVinci™ microreactor. Nuclear energy leaders from utilities around the world toured Westinghouse’s Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility in South Carolina today on the first day of our annual Nuclear Fuel Symposium. The Columbia site manufactures the nuclear fuel used to produce about 10% of all electricity in the United States. The up-close look at our manufacturing, engineering and testing capabilities kicked off the two-day event exploring new technologies and opportunities in the nuclear fuel industry. Thank you to everyone attending the symposium, including our utility customers from the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Japan, South Korea, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and the United States.
