Job Title: Probation Officer III

Salary: $29.11 - $36.82 per hour

General Position Summary

Klamath County is on the lookout for a Probation Officer III to join our Community Corrections team. This position involves supervising adult offenders on probation and parole, conducting needs assessments, developing case plans, and monitoring compliance. If you have strong assessment skills, are detail-oriented, and can maintain thorough case records, we want to hear from you.

The Ideal Candidate

Our Probation Officer III is detail-oriented with strong communication skills and can effectively manage a caseload. They can read, analyze, and interpret professional documents and governmental regulations, write clear and concise reports, and present information effectively. Strong problem-solving abilities, basic mathematical skills, and proficiency with DOC400 Database software, ICOTS, DMS, LEDS Internet software, Word Processing, and Excel are also essential. They are able to work collaboratively with community partners and outside agencies and have a proactive approach to problem-solving and offender rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interview adult offenders on probation, parole, or post-prison supervision to assess risk and needs using validated tools
  • Develop and implement case plans based on assessments and refer clients to appropriate community agencies
  • Maintain regular contact with clients, monitoring their activities and progress toward meeting conditions such as fines, restitution, and treatment participation
  • Write reports and communicate with courts or supervisory authorities about client compliance and progress
  • Prepare pre-sentence reports and recommendations for court hearings
  • Attend court hearings, document and testify as needed, and make recommendations at compliance hearings
  • Maintain thorough records of client casework, including assessments, services provided, and progress
  • Participate in developing service resources for client treatment and service evaluation
  • Carry a firearm for self-defense as required by law and department policy
  • Conduct arrest and search procedures and perform home and office visits
  • Attend staff meetings, professional conferences, and training programs, network with criminal justice agencies and treatment providers

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must pass the POST test and be sworn in as a Peace Officer in Oregon
  • Must acquire Parole and Probation Basic Certification from DPSST within one year
  • Must acquire and maintain LEDS Certification
  • Must acquire and maintain CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
