Pressman- Lithography Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lithography Pressman oversees different initiatives or projects of the business related to lithography, monitors their progress and completion, and ensures that they meet the expectations of the clients (Internal & External). The Lithography Pressman will be working closely with cross functional teams to ensure that all project requirements, deadlines, and schedules are met.

This role will also have the responsibility to provide technical support to the Litho production line by improving inefficiencies, supporting the operators, coordinating problem-solving efforts, etc. This position will be involved from commissioning, startup, and turnover to operations. The position requires a proven problem solver and equipment owner serving as a technical resource for the production infrastructure.

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: **

Pressman which include but are not limited to duties such as;

  • Under general supervision, promotes art lithography. Collaborates with artists and prints editions.
  • Supervises and teaches apprentice printers.
  • Sets up and operates a lithograph press to print descriptive material and designs on tinplate.
  • Installs printing plates on machine rolls, using hand-tools and gauges.
  • Adjusts feed guides, back and side gauges, and rollers with hand-tools.
  • Adjusts or changes gears to regulate rate of feed and turns fountain keys to adjust flow of ink.
  • Inspects lithographed plates to ensure that printing is clear and registered (multiple passes) according to specifications or samples.
  • Examines plates during the process and removes defective plates.
  • Performs quality checks and ensures good quality printing.
  • Observes heat gauges and regulates controls of the drying oven to cure ink.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly.
  • Accurately input data into computer systems to record production quantities through work order completions.
  • Maintaining a tidy work environment and adhering to industry regulations.
  • Respond to warning signals and alarms that indicate issues have arisen, taking all necessary precautions to prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Document plant processes and record production data.
  • Follow all necessary regulations and appropriate Company procedures including quality policies and safety policies.
  • Identify and report unsafe operations to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Safely operate dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in handling supplies and equipment.


EDUCATION, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution. The minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
  • Experience maintaining motor controls, installations, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Experience operating manufacturing equipment or machinery.
  • Experience in some or all of the following is preferred: Hoe’s Printing Presses, Wagner Coaters, Crabtree presses, Mailander, Epic Water Dampers, EPG Ink Control and UV curing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and schedules.
  • Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of lithographic processes and techniques.
  • Knowledge of printing press operations and workflow.
  • Ability to train apprentice printers in the principles, concepts, procedures and techniques of lithography.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • General knowledge of basic accessing information on the computer or entering data in a computer system
  • Ability to operate and maintain lithographic presses and equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL FACTORS:

The physical demands and work environment described below represent the activities and surroundings of the position(s).Works primarily in a warehouse/manufacturing facility. Daily contact with other departmental personnel. Occasionally works in all weather conditions, extreme temperatures, around chemicals and chemical fumes/emissions, dusty & clean environments. Frequently works with electrical and mechanical hazards. Continuous use of vision, hearing and speech. Standing, walking (approximately 90% of the time) and occasional bending. Will lift, carry, pull / push, and reach for supplies and on occasion lifting (up to 50 lbs.) while performing various aspects of the job. Will need to climb stairs, climb ladders, lift and move objects, requires manual dexterity and repetitive use of keyboard/computer devices/power tools/machining equipment; Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.

HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS: First shift position. Schedule may vary depending on plant operational and customer needs thus flexibility is required which could include long days, occasional evenings & weekends; regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
