MSAG is seeking a Policy Advisor to support The Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy (GHSD) in Washington, D.C.

The Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy (GHSD) is responsible for implementing the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) - the U.S. Government initiative launched in 2003 focused on saving and improving the lives of those suffering from HIV/AIDS around the world. PEPFAR is focused on achieving an AIDS-free generation. PEPFAR is the largest commitment made by any nation to combat a single disease internationally. Since 2003, $65 billion has been invested through PEPFAR to address HIV/AIDS globally and the annual budget is approximately $6 billion per year. The program is funding over 4,000 employees around the globe and in the implementing agencies.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  • Prepares substantive background and analytical documents and reports for the Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy (GHSD), leadership, and other Department bureaus and Executive Branch agency personnel as requested, on efforts by the U.S. Government and others to promote the U.S. Government's global health priorities, including efforts to combat the global HIV/AIDS pandemic and promote global health diplomacy.
  • Uses scientific background to brief on, advise about, and provide GHSD senior staff and colleagues with policy-relevant technical and scientific information on health topics including infectious and non-communicable diseases.
  • Evaluates policy options proposed by outside stakeholders, such as foreign governments, Congress, researchers, and members of non-governmental organizations, to improve global health and fight the global HIV/AIDS pandemic and identifies the consequences of adopting these alternatives to existing U.S. Governmental policies.
  • Supports GHSD efforts by conducting and undertaking analytical studies or assessments that address U.S. Government and other efforts to improve global health.
  • Analyzes qualitative and quantitative data collected by the Department, other Executive Branch Agencies, foreign governments, and non-governmental sources to develop policy inititives that advance USG global health priorities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelors' or graduate/higher level degree in public health, Health Sciences, allied sciences, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance is required.
