Meteorologist & Operations Manager at Weathernet | B.S. in Meteorology and Oceanography

Summary:

Asuccessful candidate will provide accurate and timely daily forecasts for a wide variety of clients. These clients include a diverse list including, but not limited to, departments of transportation, cities, counties, airports and schools. Forecasts are provided year round on a 24/7 basis requiring skill in both winter weather and severe weather situations.

Additional project work is possible during slower weather patterns, and may relate to client relations, programming, weather instrumentation installation/maintenance, business development, or continued education.


Responsibilities:

- Produce accurate and timely weather forecasts on a daily basis

- Communicate the forecast to a wide variety of clients in terms of how they are specifically impacted

- Monitoring weather concerns across the country, and producing updates as needed

- Collaborate with other meteorologists on shift to produce consistent forecasts


Required:

- Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science

- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays

- Ability to multitask between producing forecasts, monitoring weather, and answering phone calls

- Ability to arrive at work as well as complete workload in a timely manner


Preferred:

- 3+ years of experience in a professional forecasting role

- Road weather experience, as well as understanding the impacts of road weather

- Pacific Northwest weather forecasting experience

- Mountain weather forecasting experience

- Understanding of various weather models and the differences between them

- Familiarity with Gibson Ridge radar software, radar interpretation skills including dual-polarization products

- Experience working with weather instrumentation in a field environment, specifically RWIS stations. This could include background on a number of different types of instrumentation, communication and power devices relevant to meteorology field deployments.
