The Emmy award-winning production Entertainment Tonight is looking for a seasoned journalist to join our team. The right candidate will be a leader on our news desk when it comes to bringing in stories, source reporting, and news-making bookings.  Please note that this is not an on-camera role.

  

You must be a pro at navigating celebrity-related criminal and civil court proceedings. You have already cultivated sources within law enforcement.  Your phone is filled with contact information for Hollywood power players and news makers. You thrive on a fast paced, deadline driven environment. You have an unshakable professional demeanor, even in high stress situations. You like multitasking. You get excited when news breaks, no matter when or where, and are always first to dive in to ensure you win the story. 

  

You understand the 24/7 needs of a news operation.  You are self-sufficient and know the right questions to ask and the next steps to take without hand holding. You are passionate about pop culture and can recognize famous faces without assistance. 

 

  

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Run point on all celebrity court cases. 
  • This includes being able to communicate the new details of a case, plus overseeing ET’s coverage of the case. 
  • You will keep track of important dates, new filings. You will advocate for how our coverage takes shape. 
  • Run point on all celebrity arrests & law enforcement related stories. 
  • Cultivate and maintain a long list of contacts that will aid ET in the brand’s reporting & storytelling. 
  • Pitch stories daily for the ET brand’s many platforms. 
  • Spend each day working to break stories involving celebrities. 
  • Book & produce news making interviews. 
  • Book & produce experts that can add clarity to our reporting. 
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment where you’ll be expected to multitask and work well with others. 
  • Embrace that news is a 24/7 gig and be a good communicator. If news breaks during “off hours” you’re still a key contributor. 

  

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A minimum of 5 years working as a reporter in a breaking news environment 
  • You bring a long list of contacts that include Hollywood power-players and law enforcement insiders to the table. 
  • You are up for the task of bringing news to the brand on a regular (multiple times a week) basis. 
  • You have a firm grasp on the legal system and how courts & law enforcement operate 
  • You can communicate the important details of a court document with clarity & ease to co-workers 
  • You can navigate Accurint, court portals from around the country, Pacer, and FOIAs without assistance. 
  • You can always maintain a high level of professionalism. 
  • You have a strong knowledge of pop culture and can recognize celebrities from all demographics. 
  • You embrace being on call for breaking news & understand there are times when news staff must be all hands-on deck (example: award shows) 

 

This full-time role is Los Angeles-based. It is a hybrid position working from ET’s Studio City location on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays with the option to work from home on Wednesdays & Fridays.   You will be expected to work major events and award shows in addition to normal workdays at various times during the year.   Your schedule may need to shift to accommodate news gathering needs.  You will always get as much notification as possible about changes.
