News Multimedia Journalist (MMJ)

Hearst is looking for a Multimedia Journalist who can identify important story ideas, shoot and edit video news packages and present them in a compelling manner. You will help build an exciting, new venture focused on producing content available to all Hearst Television stations and Hearst Newspapers, with a focus on delivering content for our Northern California stations, including KCRA-TV, and Bay Area publications, including the San Francisco Chronicle. The ideal candidate will love telling stories for all platforms and thrive in a collaborative environment. This is an in-person role based in San Francisco, and you will report to the Hearst TV Director of Special Projects & Group Initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Gather information for stories for multiple platforms, including digital, social and broadcast newscasts
  • Provide live coverage of breaking news, weather and sports when needed
  • Discover and help acquire rights for user-generated content
  • Shoot, write and edit high-quality packages tailored to specific platforms
  • Appear on-camera as needed
  • Collaborate with the special projects team and newsroom staff on packages, special reports and documentaries
  • Develop sources and create story ideas around topics of interest in Northern California
  • Shoot live shots and live interviews, and track news stories

Requirements

  • 4-10 years of professional experience in news reporting, video photojournalism and editing
  • Understanding of various social platforms and the needs of the digital audience
  • Creative writer and editor
  • Must deliver with authenticity to connect with viewers
  • Can provide samples of reporting and photography
  • Experience developing local contacts
  • Experience shooting and editing high-quality video
  • Can deal with the stresses and pressures of deadlines
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a near-perfect driving record
  • Flexibility to work different shifts like nights, weekends and holidays
  • Part 107 drone operation licensing is a plus
  • Related military experience will be considered

Salary Statement

The estimated base salary range for this role is between $100,000 and $120,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, market demands and conditions, including geographic location where the work will be performed, and other factors permitted by law. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
