We are a small, community-focused mental health program dedicated to providing high-quality, comprehensive mental health care to individuals across the lifespan. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Biller to join our mental health team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that mental health services are billed accurately and efficiently. Key duties include preparing and submitting billing to our fiscal department, following up on unpaid claims, addressing billing issues, and verifying participants' insurance. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical billing and coding, particularly in the mental health field, and will work closely with the program's leadership team to ensure the financial health of the practice. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and critical thinking skills are required.

Required Qualifications

Degree in a related field, a Medical Billing Certificate (CPB, CMRS), or several years of work experience with medical billing or bookkeeping.

Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Medicaid Managed Care, the insurance billing process, coding systems (CPT, ICD-10), and clinical terminology.

Ability to work independently and familiarity with Microsoft Office/Excel and Google Docs.

Familiarity with Electronic Healthcare Records.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Excellent Communication Skills And Interpersonal Abilities.

Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially and ethically.

Ability to make sliding-scale, self-pay determinations for uninsured clients.

Ability to generate invoices for self-payments and manage payments using a secure tracking system.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of AWARDS or similar Electronic Health Record System.

Experience with OMH Regulations.

Experience working within a mental health program.

Responsibilities

Verify client insurance coverage and benefits for mental health services.

Communicate with insurance companies to resolve discrepancies and obtain necessary authorizations.

Prepare and send client statements for services rendered.

Address client inquiries and resolve billing issues promptly.

Obtain client information from mental health service providers and enter data into automated online billing systems for appropriate billing of Medicaid, Medicare, Managed Care, and other third-party insurers and self-pay clients.

Monitor claims and reconcile payments, denials, and pending claims.

Apply transmittal data against billed visits, research denials, and re-transmit/submit.

Maintain ongoing dialogue with the clinical team on insurance eligibility of clients/client status and information; prepare reports for the Director of Mental Health Services and Executive Team as requested.

Work collaboratively with program leadership and the agency finance team.

Be responsible for and coordinate all personal contacts with payers and follow up on billing problems and payments.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
