This occupation encompasses the mechanical duties of development, modification, final check out,
maintenance, adjustment and operation of facility and vehicle systems, including fairings, AGE
(Aerospace Ground Equipment), mechanical, electro-mechanical systems, subsystems and
components. Includes participation in countdown test, structural, hydraulic, propellant, pyrotechnic,
pneumatic, cryogenic, pressured gasses, environmental and contamination control systems and
abort procedures, and post-flight or missile accident recovery programs.
Operate and maintain vehicle/AGE monitoring equipment. Plan assigned work, methods and
sequence of operations. Working from any type of authorized engineering documentation, check
out, maintain, adjust, modify, troubleshoot and make engineer-approved changes. Review test
procedures, and make appropriate recommendations, as needed. Working from sketches, drawings,
wiring diagrams, schematics, manufacturer's specifications, blueprints or other written technical data,
isolate problems and repair or replace failed components in launch vehicles and AGE support
equipment including precision component cleaning, commodity sampling, non-volatile residue (NVR
sampling and the fabrication of new parts. Work from oral instructions for the purpose of assignments
and direction. Install and maintain stainless tubing, braided steel lines, high pressure fittings, purge
systems, air pumps, regulators and other pressured resource distribution systems. Perform minor
maintenance and upkeep for the prevention of corrosion on surfaces while performing authorized
modification, repair or installation of replacement parts.
Perform proofloading of lifting and hoist equipment. Perform pneumatic and hydrostatic testing.
Perform vehicle alignments using precision measuring equipment. Connect or mate electronic
control cable to AGE and associated equipment; operate and maintain vehicle/AGE monitoring
equipment. Operate and monitor control systems supporting launch facility operations or vehicle
environment controls.
Operate, maintain and repair structural, hydraulic, propellant, pneumatic, fluid, cryogenic, pressured
gasses (i.e. nitrogen, helium, breathing air, fuels, oxidizers, etc.) and environmental control systems.
Perform vehicle alignment procedures and accomplish final vehicle acceptance tests and pre/post
launch repair and flushing operations. May be required to maintain certifications in propellant
protective equipment, i.e,(SCAPE); operate portable vapor detectors and perform propellant
operations.
Position ladders and work platforms. Operate Mobile Service Tower (MST) doors, decks, forklifts,
Personnel Aerial Lift devices (PALD), hoist equipment and cranes. Perform and direct crane
operations and handle tag lines. Operate tugs and lifting equipment necessary for the loading and
off-loading of cargo aircraft. Operate consoles and equipment involved in mobile tower movement.
