Chemical manufacturer is looking for a Site Operations Manager in their plant located in West/Northwest area of Chicago, IL. The Operations Manager will ensure all activities meet company standards for safety, environmental compliance, including the Management of Change process, and quality conforming will all applicable US OSHA, IL OSHA, US EPA, IL EPA, GMP, and other applicable standards. The Operations Manager will lead the team and manage the physical plant to ensure customer deliveries are met on schedule, to ensure the reliability of physical assets, to optimize equipment and work processes, and to identify/implement capital improvements in coordination with Corporate Engineering. This is a smaller manufacturing facility with a lot of opportunity for career growth.
Duties and responsibilities
- Manages production operations, planning and maintenance in blending and reagents, logistics, and shipping as on-floor / hands-on leader.
- Functions as Site Director when Site Director is off-site.
- Responsible for the Environmental, Health, Safety, Security and regulatory programs on site in partnership with EHS&S Coordinator and Corporate EHS&S leadership.
- Works with the Site Director to develop production schedules to meet internal goals as well as expectations of customers while ensuring raw material and finished goods inventories are maintained at optimum levels.
- Directly supervises all Blending, Reagents, and Logistics team members working with the Site Director and Corporate HR to interview and hire for open positions, execute disciplinary actions and ensure compliance with US DOL and IL DOL requirements.
- Works with Site Director and Corporate HR to ensure appropriate resources allocation.
- Coordinates with Site Quality Assurance Manager to ensure all products are manufactured in accordance with customer, industry and regulatory standards for quality and customer acceptance.
- Strictly enforces PPE requirements in accordance with company and OSHA requirements.
- Leads production planning meetings as necessary
- Responsible for continuous improvement in area of responsibility.
- Collaborates with R&D and Commercial teams while ensuring management of change process is followed in area of responsibility and participates in design review.
- Works with the Site Director and Corporate Finance to ensure cost targets are achieved in area of responsibility including operations expenses and capital budgets.
- Works with Site Director and Corporate Engineering to ensure physical plant, maintenance activities, and all capital improvements meet company and applicable local, state, and national standards.
- Conducts incident investigations for any and all Safety or Quality incidents in area of responsibility.
- Uses OE Suites system for management of change an incident reporting and investigation.
- Use ERP system as required for purchase order entry.
- Develops training programs in coordination with Corporate EHS&S and ensure development of team.
The minimum qualifications required to successfully perform this job include:
- 5 years chemical blending experience required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
- Previous management experience preferred
- Understanding of chemistry principles required.
- Knowledge manufacturing chemical processes.
- Experience in production planning, process optimization, small project management and process capability improvement.
- Working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office suite and ability to navigate software systems
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
- Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations.
Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer
