Manager of Donor Relations and Philanthropy

Legal Aid seeks a Development and Communications Manager, focused on donor relations, philanthropy and cultivating individual supporter relationships. The manager stewards supporters, solicits gifts, and helps recognize, retain and expand individual donor support. The Manager will be part of a team of eight who work to increase awareness about Legal Aid’s mission and impact. Depending on experience, the Development and Communications Manager will have primary or secondary roles in:

Fundraising:

  • Serve as staff contact and support for Partners in Justice, young professionals, and other affiliate programs;
  • Nurture, solicit, and steward select funder and potential funder relationships;
  • Support relationships with donors, vendors, community partners and others;
  • Coordinate donor relations program, giving clubs, and associated events to engage current and potential donors and strengthen donor ties to mission;
  • Provide support and help organize fundraising events and campaigns as needed, identifying and implementing ways to engage donors
  • Provide support to the team related to prospecting, research, and moving donors along the giving continuum; and
  • Conduct donor research and input into Raiser’s Edge donor database for the entire team’s benefit, including using collected data to move donors along the giving continuum.


Supporter Communications:

  • Assist with individual donor stewardship including acknowledgement letters, thank you cards, donor appreciation gifts, and other communications via phone and email;
  • Produce communications to support Partners in Justice and all affiliate programs;
  • Coordinate and produce communications in support of annual fund solicitations and with individual donors;
  • Supporting Legal Aid’s donor, public relations and communications work, including:
    • earned and owned media such as newsletters, website/social media – including story and ad strategy development for both the client and supporter community
    • strategic public relations planning and implementation
    • supporting outreach and special events, and engaging donors in special events
The Successful Candidate will:

  • Be committed to Legal Aid’s mission.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in related field or commensurate experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in non-profit fundraising, development, public relations or similar work.
  • Be proficient in:
    • MS Office.
    • contact management databases (Raiser’s Edge knowledge strongly preferred).
    • Research via web and other electronic sources (donor research experience helpful). website and social media engagement (WordPress experience preferred).
  • Have excellent:
    • interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
    • organizational skills: able to prioritize work, and able to handle multiple responsibilities.
    • attention to detail and accuracy.
    • organization, planning, follow-up, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills to both internal staff and external partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality in handling donor records and personal information.
  • Be able to travel and to work some evenings, weekends and early morning hours as needed.

The Manager will report to either the Director or a Senior Manager.

Compensation & Benefits: The salary range for this position is $66,000 to $99,000. The top third of Legal Aid’s salary ranges are reserved for those with deep skill sets, long tenure, and consistent exceptional performance.
