High school diploma required; associate’s degree preferred.
Experience with Windows and Microsoft office, typing proficiency of 60wpm, and medical terminology background preferred.
Must have excellent telephone, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Duties
Laboratory Assistants in Histology are responsible for the slide distribution section of Histology.
Included in the responsibilities for this position are:
Complete maintenance and management of staining and coverslipping of all slides that are completed in the Histology department, filing and maintaining all blocks that are created in the department; and distribution of slides to correct pathologist.
Critical thinking skills will be required to determine distribution of slides to pathologists available to take cases.
Lab assistants training to be Histotechnicians may process specimens for microscopic examination by a Pathologist through the processes of embedding the tissue in paraffin blocks.
