Globally, the number of people diagnosed and living with brain disorders continues to rise. But what is not so evident is the financial and social cost to families and economies. In 2019, $1.2 trillion was lost in income by people living with brain disorders and $1.1 trillion was spent directly on care for brain disorders by households and payers. We are calling for change to address the burden of compromised #BrainHealth and look forward to hearing more at this year’s European Academy of Neurology Find out more in the following video Mikele Epperly Global Integrated Programme Leader, Brain Health. #EAN2024

Europe’s healthcare innovation lead has regressed over the past 20 years. And constraining definitions of unmet medical need will further erode competitiveness. #EUPharmaLegislation To turn this around we call on the EU to recognize that medicines’ discovery and development is a globally coordinated endeavour. And that each of quantum leap and incremental innovation bring value to health systems. #SixBoldActions.

Experiencing symptoms similar to an infection may at times, be a sign of something much more severe like non-Hodgkin #lymphoma. By advancing #diagnostic methods, we can help pathologists be more certain in assessing kappa and lambda clonality and potentially reduce the need for additional biopsies if lymphoma wasn’t originally suspected. Ultimately, this may result in better patient outcomes. Find out more 👉 http://spkl.io/60464AYUu

For adults like living with #SpinalMuscularAtrophy like #SMA My Way Champion, Martyn, the transition from childhood to adulthood marks a significant shift in support systems. While childhood often provides a network of caregivers, therapists, and medical professionals, the transition to adulthood can bring a stark decline in available resources, leaving many feeling isolated and overwhelmed. Moreover, navigating the complex landscape of adult healthcare systems and self-advocacy can be daunting. However, amidst these challenges, we recognise the remarkable strength and resilience exhibited by individuals like Martyn, who embody the SMA My Way spirit. Their personal experiences shed light on the need for continuous, comprehensive care throughout all life stages for the SMA community.

🔧 Engineering New Models of the Human Gut 🔧 New R&D innovation merges stem cell biology with advanced engineering to create more accurate models of human organs for drug research and development. This could eventually lead to faster, safer and more tailored treatments. In a recent study by Roche #pRED and #TeamIHB scientists and EPFL collaborators, a new organoid-on-a-chip system combines the biological complexity of organoids with the precision of organs-on-a-chip. These innovative models exhibit unprecedented cellular diversity and longevity, as well as biological responses observed in human patients, offering detailed mechanistic understanding that can enable more precise therapeutic interventions.
