Junior to Mid-level Urban Planner

We are looking for someone on a part time basis filling in for a maternity leave (expected duration around 5 months).

DREAM Collaborative, a Boston-based MBE architecture, planning, and development firm, is seeking a dynamic and motivated Junior to Mid-Level Urban Planner with: 3 to 5 years of planning work experience to join our diversity-powered team. DREAM’s Urban Design & Planning studio’s growing portfolio includes regional policy plans, municipal zoning, visioning, neighborhood planning, master planning projects, and feasibility studies for private developers. We are dedicated to underserved neighborhoods to co-create high-quality design accessible to everyone.

We Are Seeking a Team Member With Interest In Working Across a Wide Range Of Geographies From Cities To Suburban And Rural Areas; a Passion For Promoting a Walkable, Sustainable, And Vibrant Public Realm; And a Desire To Contribute To The Development Of Inclusive And Equitable Places. The Ideal Candidate Will Bring

  • knowledge of urban design principles, streetscape design, pedestrian-friendly development, and zoning and land use policies;
  • familiarity with typical building typologies;
  • the ability to use GIS for spatial analysis and mapping, prepare conceptual site plans and massing studies, and craft compelling graphic presentations; and
  • excellent writing abilities and verbal presentation skills, and an interest in fostering public dialog through community engagement.
  • knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup, ArcGIS, and CAD;
  • excellent work habits, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, high standards for one’s own work, and openness to constructive feedback.

A Masters in City Planning is preferred; a bachelor’s degree or other degree in planning or a related field is also acceptable. Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, or other languages experienced when working in diverse communities is encouraged.

This is a temporary, part-time position (up to 20 hours/week), for at least five (5) months, with possible extension to a full-time, permanent position.

Candidates must be willing to relocate to Massachusetts if not already living here. Work is hybrid: partly remote, and partly in-office.

Occasional travel for site visits, meetings, and evening/weekend public workshops is expected.
