Job Title: Instructional Design Intern

Position Supervisor: Assistant Director of Learning and Development

Location: (Hybrid) Includes one day in the Arlington, VA office

Position Timeline: 3 Month Internship with room for extension


APHSA is recruiting interns for our Internship Program! We are seeking ambitious new talent who would like to gain experience working for a dynamic team at an innovative non-profit.


You will be able to join a team of dedicated professionals who are results-oriented and are impacting systems across the nation! You will gain hands-on experience and work on various projects. You will learn to apply your skills to develop engaging and innovative eLearning products by collaborating with subject matter experts within the human services sector.


APHSA is an association representing state and local health and human services agencies. With and through these members, we work to advance solutions that are centered on administering, overseeing, and aligning programs to provide access to food, health care, housing, employment, childcare, community support, and other key building blocks.


Your direct supervisor and coach will be the Assistant Director of Learning and Development. Your support will be the entire APHSA organization because we work best when we all work together!


JOB SUMMARY:


Major Responsibility #1 (50%): Develops eLearning modules and digital learning materials by applying knowledge of adult learning theory to identify appropriate training media and methodologies based on audience learning styles, and course content. Creates learning content for traditional classrooms, self-paced online courses or microlearning, or a blend of approaches. Maintains project plans for assigned projects and provides weekly updates to Instructional Designer


Major Responsibility #2 (20%): Assisting to design and develop engaging, innovative, and effective online course materials with clear strategies and tactics to achieve desired learning outcomes which includes collaborating with Instructional Designer on projects including approval of course outlines and storyboards, capturing data for quarterly Data Review meetings, and supporting the Organizational Effectiveness Team around learning and development needs. Assists the Administrator of the Learning Management System. Maintains and updates communication plan with the Communications Team.


Other Duties #4 (5%): Performing other job-related duties as assigned. Takes ownership and demonstrates a high degree of accountability; Attends APHSA meetings and conferences, as needed; Completes administrative tasks as needed such as bi-weekly timesheet and expense submission.


Education/Experience:

  • Must be currently enrolled or recently graduated from MA or MEd in Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, Learning Science (Andragogy), or related field from an accredited university or equivalent experience in the field of training and development, education, or communications
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience, or related course work, in design and development eLearning products.


Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of teaching and learning strategies to promote active learning, evidence-based practices, critical thinking, and the use of technology.
  • Assisting to design activities and professional development opportunities that support instruction.
  • Experience with industry-standard authoring tools, such as Articulate and Captivate, for eLearning module development.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented mentality
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated high level of determination and creativity
  • Ability to work independently—a self-starter
  • Enthusiasm for learning
  • Computer proficiency
  • Audio and video editing skills
