We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team, reporting directly to the Director of Corporate Finance. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and regulatory compliance for a newly acquired business unit. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, exceptional financial acumen, and a proven track record of success in a similar role.

Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
    • Provide insightful analysis of financial results and trends to senior management.
    • Ensure accurate and timely reporting to meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting activities.
    • Collaborate with department heads to develop and monitor departmental budgets.
    • Identify variances between actual and budgeted performance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Accounting Operations:
    • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
    • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
    • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and other financial transactions.
  • Financial Analysis:
    • Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and business planning.
    • Evaluate investment opportunities, capital expenditures, and potential acquisitions.
    • Develop financial models and scenarios to assess business performance and risk.
  • Cost Accounting:
    • Monitor and analyze costs of production
    • Prepare and analyze cost reports and budgets
    • Conduct cost audits to identify cost-saving opportunities
    • Analyze cost variances and provide explanations
    • Provide insights and recommendations to improve cost efficiency
    • Assist in financial decision-making based on cost analysis
    • Stay updated on industry trends in cost accounting and implement best practices
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including tax filings and financial reporting.
    • Manage internal and external audits, including coordinating audit schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
    • Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective internal controls and processes.
  • Team Leadership :
    • Lead a team of 2-4 direct reports, setting goals, providing performance feedback, communication and ongoing development.
    • Oversee processes, reporting and work performed by the team. Identify, suggest and oversee implementation of continuous improvement.
Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Proven expertise as hands-on leader of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment with responsibility for month-, quarter- and year-end reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Proven experience validating inputs and developing reporting to inform business decisions, identify opportunities and improve outcomes.
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and trends.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience in building and motivating high-performing teams.
Software: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems; experience with SyteLine and/or ERP systems preferred.
