The Instructional Designer works with program directors/deans, subject matter experts, faculty members, and other eLearning team members to develop new courses or revise existing courses in the College's online learning management system, Canvas. The Instructional Designer recommends standards and priorities for course development/redevelopment and does periodic course reviews to ensure that courses are designed to be outcomes-driven, engaging, and ADA compliant. The Instructional Designer leads development teams to design and develop courses and also manages their own caseload of courses in which s/he contributes expertise to structure content and activities, develop assessments, adapt instructional materials and create media to optimize student learning.

Responsibilities And Duties
Manage course design and development projects
- Lead individual course development teams that include subject matter experts, program directors/deans, course developers and others while ensuring that resources are well deployed, timelines and standards are met, and instruction and production staff collaborate effectively.
- Structure content and activities; develop assessments; adapt instructional materials; and create media, hands-on exercises and scenarios to optimize student learning.
- Identify opportunities to leverage generative AI to streamline course development, create interactive learning experiences, and personalize content to students' needs and interests.
- Provide consultation and support to individual faculty looking to improve their courses through the effective use of web-based instructional technologies.
- Ensure that the course development process is evidence-based, relevant to the stakeholders, and effective for learning by the target population.
- Contribute positively to a department culture that is a hospitable and engaging environment for faculty to seek support for course improvement.
- Regularly review existing online courses and assist in the creation of priority lists of courses to be redeveloped.
- Create evidence-based improvement plans for courses which can be carried out by other instructional and production staff and faculty.
- Assist with the production of documents that communicate guidelines and standards. Keep them updated and ensure usability by course developers and faculty.
- Create and/or approve training prepared for faculty and students regarding the use of the LMS and online teaching and learning.
- Create guides and tutorials on how to leverage AI-powered features in the LMS to enhance learning, get on-demand support, and explore topics more deeply.
- Maintain currency with best-practices, research, and emerging technology in support of instructional design in online environments. Regularly communicate that information within eLearning and through department training channels.
- Deliver online or in-person training as needed.
- Master's degree in Instructional Design or Instructional Technology.
- A minimum of 5 years experience working with faculty in a higher education environment required.
- Knowledge and application of leading Instructional Design models required.
- Background in usability and experience design, information design and communications.
- Experience in developing instructor-led, online and mobile training courses.
- Experience with elearning technology platforms and learning management systems.
- Expertise creating accessible and usable Web pages.
- Skilled in HTML, CSS, and editing tools for Web text and graphics.
- Experience with Microsoft Office or Google Apps required. PhotoShop, Illustrator and other Adobe Creative Cloud experience a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and deadlines; excellent file management, documentation, project management, writing, editing, collaboration, communication and interpersonal skills; positive approach to customer service.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to multitask under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in visual, oral and written form.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
