Our client, a National Construction company with a really awesome project list, is looking for their new Director of Human Resources to support the Western Region.


Job Summary

The Director of HR for our US operations will provide strategic HR leadership and consultation to functional leadership, management, and HR colleagues. This role involves delivering timely and value-added HR services and solutions that align with the Company's business objectives. The Director of HR will partner in the development and implementation of all HR policies, programs, and solutions, including employee relations, employment practices, compensation and benefits, orientation, training and development, retention, change management, legal compliance, and communications.


Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and HR strategy consultation to the HR team and business management, creating and implementing high-quality HR programs that support business plans, objectives, and strategies.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of all business functions, competencies, and challenges, and drive change with minimal resistance.
  • Analyze trends and metrics to recommend and deliver HR solutions, benchmarking with other organizations and maintaining HRIS records and other sensitive data.
  • Administer compensation, benefits, performance management, organizational development, and other HR programs in line with company policies and competitive benchmarks.
  • Champion a positive organizational culture, improving work relationships, morale, productivity, engagement, and retention. Communicate effectively with management, providing resources to maximize talent and create career development paths.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, guidance, and interpretation of HR policies and procedures to management, reducing legal risk and ensuring compliance. Facilitate training on various HR topics.
  • Facilitate succession planning, leadership and employee development programs, and measure progress against success metrics.
  • Develop and implement programs that promote positive employee relations, proactively coach leadership on employee relations and disciplinary actions, and manage complex employee relations issues, including conducting thorough investigations when necessary.
  • Handle employment-related regulatory charges, complaints, and/or litigation in coordination with Risk Management.
  • Develop and deploy high-quality recognition and rewards programs, aligning them with performance management and employee engagement principles.
  • Ensure legal compliance with EEO, ADA, FMLA, and other federal and state regulations, and review employee termination recommendations to avoid litigation.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with internal management, employees, external vendors, and community contacts.
  • Consistently make decisions that ensure the safety and health of self and others, utilizing LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies
  • Promote the Company mission, vision, and values, championing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and providing high-quality services and programs.


Supervisory Responsibilities

May manage a team of HR professionals and support staff.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, tablets, and smartphones.


Expected Hours of Work & Travel

Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work as needed. Frequent travel to remote offices as required.


Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in business, human resources, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of HR leadership and consulting experience, preferably in a related industry.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience coaching managers, resolving complex employee relations issues, and directly managing people. Experience using HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in HR management, including staffing, talent management, development, compensation, benefits, organizational design, change management, engagement, employee relations, diversity, performance management, labor relations, and training.
  • In-depth knowledge of US employment laws and the ability to interpret and advise on those laws. Experience with union labor contracts and bargaining agreements is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience in designing and implementing strategic workforce plans, salary administration plans, benefits programs, organizational design, development plans, and change management strategies.
  • Strong continuous improvement and process orientation, with exceptional business acumen and customer service skills.
  • Superior listening, collaboration, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to build strong, diverse, high-performing, and highly engaged teams and relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including high-quality documentation and report preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex problems and drive appropriate solutions with self-initiative and sensitivity.
  • Excellent facilitation skills to effectively provide information to management and employee groups and respond appropriately to questions from internal and external parties.
