Head of EH&S

Summary

Blue Current is seeking an experienced and talented Head of EH&S with a passion for building and maintaining a strong safety culture to join our team in Hayward, California. As a hands-on leader, you will be instrumental in driving program development, implementation, incident review, and continuous improvement focused on supporting the work being done onsite. The successful candidate will lead the implementation of EHS management systems to ensure regulatory and safety compliance at our Hayward HQ. Job duties will encompass a variety of EHS areas.

Responsibilities

  • Establish strategy and provide hands-on support to develop, implement, roll-out, maintain, and improve EH&S programs and processes
  • Lead and support team members by providing training, coaching, and guidance to ensure alignment with all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Act as a technical safety resource for research and development and advanced manufacturing teams
  • Conduct and/or coordinate risk assessments, regular inspections of work areas including ergonomic assessment, incident response and after action reports
  • Implement a safety-first culture through involvement and innovation with the leadership and site operations teams
  • Ensures, maintains all necessary permits for Environmental and Regulatory Compliance
  • Lead and drive Safety Committee to create and maintain a safe and healthy workplace

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 10+ years relevant working experience working as an EHS professional preferably within a manufacturing or industry R&D environment in battery, chemical, semiconductor, oil and gas, or related industries.
  • Technical and practical proficiency of EHS issues across research, and development, manufacturing, and chemical operations
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations, relevant codes, and permitting processes including but not limited to NFPA, International Fire Code, CAL/OSHA, DOT and Air and Waste permitting regulations
  • Strong track record of submitting permits, working with regulatory agencies, leading and developing EHS programs, performing audits, JHA, and gap assessment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, adept at building relationships with internal and external parties at all organizational levels.
  • Independent and hands-on, able to run and execute new EHS programs

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment when applicable.
  • Able to pass a respirator fit test and wear a respirator periodically.
  • Able to work in office, lab, and manufacturing environment with moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards and potential exposure to chemicals

Preference

  • Hands on experience working with chemicals including liquids, gasses and powders
