Guidance Counselor

ACES is seeking a dedicated and experienced Middle School Guidance Counselor to fill a position at Ansonia Middle School. As a Middle School Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in providing guidance and support to middle school students, helping them navigate the challenges of their academic, social, and emotional development. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the well-being and success of our middle school students, fostering a positive school environment conducive to learning and personal growth.

Responsibilities

Individual Counseling:

Provide one-on-one counseling to middle school students, addressing their academic, personal, and emotional needs.

Develop and implement individualized plans to support student growth and development.

Offer a safe and confidential space for middle school students to express their concerns and feelings.

Group Counseling

Conduct group counseling sessions specifically designed for middle school students, addressing topics such as peer relationships, bullying, study skills, and stress management.

Promote teamwork, effective communication, and problem-solving skills within groups.

Academic Support

Collaborate with middle school teachers and administrators to identify students who may be struggling academically.

Assist middle school students in setting academic goals and developing strategies to achieve them.

Monitor and evaluate middle school student progress, providing necessary interventions and referrals.

Crisis Intervention

Be prepared to respond to crises or emergencies involving middle school students and provide appropriate support.

Collaborate with other professionals and agencies as needed in critical situations, ensuring age-appropriate care.

Parent and Guardian Engagement

Establish strong relationships with parents and guardians of middle school students to provide information, support, and resources.

Organize parent workshops and meetings tailored to middle school-specific issues.

Connecticut Certification as a School Guidance Counselor (068) necessary.

Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
