Graduate Student Training Program Coordinator

Non-Bargaining Unit, Part-Time, Non-Exempt

BASIC FUNCTION

The training program coordinator provides overall coordination, oversight and administration of the graduate student training program for social work and mental health counseling graduate students completing practicum and internship. Additionally the training program coordinator will provide a range of mental health support the VTSU community including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultations, clinical supervision, facilitation of group supervision, facilitation of training seminars, triage, and assessments and evaluations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical supervision to all graduate student interns and practicum students.
  • Coordinate and oversee recruitment, orientation and personnel records for graduate interns and practicum students.
  • Develop and deliver training curricula for graduate students and staff.
  • Communicate and consult with the Director of Health and Wellness.
  • Communicate and consult with university faculty at intern student graduate schools.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with national and local standards for graduate training programs in mental health and social work.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of university wide outreach events and programs.
  • Participate in clinical, multidisciplinary, and administrative team meetings.
  • Administrative duties as assigned.
  • Keep abreast of current developments in counselor training and college student mental health.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISON RECEIVED

General direction and supervision is received from the Director of Health and Wellness.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Graduate student interns and practicum students. Some supervision exercised over unlicensed post master’s level staff counselors.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health or Social Work, with appropriate licensure and at least 3 years direct mental health supervision experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

Knowledge

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Experience supervising mental health professionals.
  • Experience with college age mental health.
  • Understanding of educational goals and objectives of Vermont State University including attention to accessibility and diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Understanding or the psychological and cultural Characteristics of economically and educationally disadvantaged students in a rural setting.
  • Awareness of developmental, holistic, and proactive approaches to student success.

Skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, community agencies, and organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Good basic administrative and supervisory skills.
  • Able to meet students where they are and ensure they feel listened to and they are comfortable working with advisor to navigate challenges and concerns as they come up.
  • Experience with (or ability to learn) technologies such as Aviso, Colleague, Self-Service, Microsoft Office suite, Perceptive Content, PyraMed and Maxient.
  • Proven record of accountability and follow-through with the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster student development in the attainment of student success goals, such as academic purpose, sense of belonging/identity, agency, career readiness, civic readiness, access and equity.
  • Demonstrated positive attitude regarding Vermont State University and a desire to improve student outcomes, including attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to support a diverse community and promote diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals within the university and capacity to work as part of a team and to collaborate with others.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, community agencies and organizations.
  • Ability to work some weekends and evenings to provide student support outside normal business hours,. Must be flexible.
