Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site interprets the legacy of American criminal justice reform, from the nation’s founding through to the present day, within the long-abandoned cellblocks of the nation’s most historic prison. Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site, Inc. is a charitable nonprofit organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Its innovative preservation, interpretation, and public programs move visitors to engage in dialogue and deepen the national conversation about criminal justice.

Featuring a live performance of "Unshackled" by The Black Breath Collective, family-friendly storytelling by Thembi Palmer, and a panel discussion. Virtual admission is free.   • Meet Briana, our new Executive Assistant and Board Liaison! Briana brings extensive experience in public service, librarian, and technical service roles, most recently at The Rosenbach Museum and Library in Philadelphia. Briana holds a Bachelor's Degree in Art History from Tyler School of Art at Temple University, a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from Pratt Institute in New York, and is currently pursuing a second Master of Science in Digital Curation and Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Briana hopes to use this robust educational and professional background to contribute to ESPHS's mission to forge pathways to justice and community. Welcome to the ESPHS team, Briana!
